We have some afternoon puck out west, as the Kraken take on the Oilers at 4:00 p.m. EST. Since Edmonton's 16-game win streak came to a close last month, their defense has retracted back to being a second-rate unit. Over the 12 games since the streak ended, the Oilers are conceding 3.8 goals per game! This is a great chance to back Seattle's top scorer.
McCann has amassed 46 points (25G, 21A) this year, and he also leads the team in SOG (149). McCann was recently held off the scoresheet against top defenses in Boston and Pittsburgh, but I think he will get back to his scoring ways this afternoon against Edmonton. Prior to the two-game drought, he added 11 points (5G, 6A) over a seven-game scoring run.
The Lightning host the Canadiens tonight in Tampa. This is a game in which the Lightning should cruise to an easy victory. With that being said, I think Hedman will emphasize his defensive play as the game goes on. The veteran d-man has had a pass-first mentality this year, racking up 50 assists compared to just 10 goals.
In two games against the Habs this season, Hedman has posted 3.0 SOG and 1.0 SOG. Over his last 15 games, he has stayed under 2.5 SOG in 10 of those games. Tampa has won eight of those 15 games, and Hedman has come in under 2.5 SOG in six of those wins. That plays into my theory that he won't be ripping pucks on net if the Bolts have a lead.
I'm going to ride the hot hand tonight in Theodore. The d-man just returned from injury on February 20th (five games played) and has registered at least one point in every single game. Theodore has nine points (9A) over the five-game sample size, which brings him up to 27 points (4G, 23A) on the year.
Theodore is more than a point-per-game guy right now, as he has only played 25 games this season. The Golden Knights take on a Sabres team that's a mediocre 13th overall defensively (2.87 GAA) and 18th on the PK (78.92%). On that note, Theodore runs point on Vegas' top power-play unit. Let's lock him in to secure another point.
