Tuesday's Best NHL PrizePicks Predictions
What always gives Matthew Tkachuk the advantage to contribute is how often he controls the puck thanks to his ability to spread the puck. His 15 assists are fourth in the playoffs. He has taken his chances throughout the series with three or more shots on goal in three of the five games this series and has a 61% Corsi forward rate at full strength.
The Oilers have allowed Tkachuk to perform better than he previously has. Coming into the Stanley Cup Final, he averaged 5.69 shots per game, but that number has increased to 7.3 in this round.
With their backs against the wall and the possibility of losing in the Stanley Cup Final two years in a row, the Oilers have to get major contributions from their stars. This is why we'll see their top line on the ice frequently.
Connor McDavid has been receiving a significant amount of ice time throughout the playoffs. He's hit the more than on this mark in four of the five games this series, and it has to do with head coach Kris Knoblauch having him on for a few different line combinations due to his ability to spread and shoot the puck. McDavid gets more ice time than anyone else. His 37.9% share of the ice time leads the playoffs. In an elimination game, he will be trying to get as much playing time as possible.
Leon Draisaitl has been productive throughout the playoffs and is tied with Connor McDavid with 33 points. We could have a situation again where, even if the Oilers don't win the Stanley Cup, a player from the losing side could win the Conn Smythe. Throughout this series, he's been coming up big, especially in overtime, and he has sealed their two wins.
What makes Draisaitl one of the best goal scorers in the game is that he can score on shots that most cannot. He leads the team with a 31.5% shooting talent above average and is second with 2.5 goals above shooting talent. He will need to contribute with a goal if Edmonton wants to keep its playoff chances alive.
