Thursday’s Best WNBA First Basket Scorers & Picks

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Atlanta Dream at Indiana Fever

Kelsey Mitchell (+470) and Caitlin Clark (+550) lead the Indiana Fever in first-quarter scoring. Mitchell (five first-quarter points per game) is slightly behind Clark (six first-quarter points per game) in scoring through the first 10 minutes of play. Either guard is capable of sinking the first basket. However, Aliyah Boston may be in the best position to score first.

The Indiana Fever face a tough matchup on the road against an Atlanta team that doesn't have much of an inside presence. The Dream concede over 40 points in the paint and a total of 79 points per game. A whopping 50% of Boston’s baskets are in the paint. We expect the Fever center to once again assert authority in the lane early and often.

Boston is averaging 3.7 points on 52.5% shooting from the field through the first 10 minutes. Clark and Mitchell accounted for the opening three buckets on Sunday. Any of the three is a fantastic selection that will return a sizable payout.

Pick: Aliyah Boston (+480)

Golden State Valkyries at Minnesota Lynx

Olivia Miles enters this contest averaging 17.3 points through the previous three games. The rookie guard is shooting a phenomenal 58.6% from the field over that span.

Miles averages 16 points per game at home this season and is coming off a contest in which she shot 77% from the field on nine attempts. She has scored at least 16+ points in three consecutive games, and we wouldn't be surprised in the least to see the talented rookie kick things off with the initial basket in this contest.

The guard out of TCU ranks 10th in the WNBA in first-quarter scoring, averaging 4.8 points through the first 10 minutes of action. Miles is connecting on over 58% of her shot attempts in the first quarter, and averages 3.8 points when playing at home. The Lynx guard has scored the first basket twice this season.

The Valkyries and Lynx match up extremely well (without Napheesa Collier on the floor), and there are quite a few players who make for quality candidates. Miles just happens to be one of the most aggressive out of the possible selections, but we can certainly see her getting the first basket tonight.

Pick: Olivia Miles (+750)
