There are no WNBA games this evening due to All-Star Weekend. What we do have on the menu is the Three Point Contest, where the smallest ROI is currently at +210. Azzi Fudd (+210)
We kick things off with the rookie out of UConn, who is the favorite to win the competition. Not only is Azzi Fudd the favorite going into the contest, the return is dipping at a rapid rate. Full disclosure, I was able to lock in the payout at +280 on Wednesday night. There's little doubt the return will push below +200, so the sooner the better is the best course of action if you agree with the consensus on the favorite.
Azzi Fudd is exceptional at getting jump shots up in as little time as possible. The quick release gives the guard for the Wings a serious advantage over the rest of the contestants. Winning this competition is not only about being able to sink three point. Timing, rhythm, and speed all play an important role in walking away as the Champion.
The drop in ROI screams that the public is heavily backing Fudd this evening. The rookie guard sits in 10th place amongst the league in three point shooting, with two three pointers per game. Fudd enters this contest having made 15 out of her last 34 attempts from three point distance through the last five games.
Marina Mabrey (+300)
Our next selection has to be heavily considered given the drop in profit that Azzi Fudd is currently experiencing. Marina Mabrey is sitting at the top of the league with 3.3 three pointers made each contest. The veteran guard has made five three pointers or more in six games this season. Mabrey hit 21 three pointers over a three game span in June.
This will be the second Three Point contest for Mabrey. The guard for Toronto was elected to participate in 2024, and finished with a score of 19 - Mabrey was unable to exceed the threshold to advance past the first round. The experience will absolutely come into play for the Tempo guard. Mabrey is one of two players that have been selected for the three point contest prior to this season.
Janelle Salaun (+450)
Azzi Fudd is by all means the clear-cut favorite to win this contest based on odds, as well as public expectation. Having said that, Janelle Salaun may be our favorite selection of all the contestants. The forward from Golden State is kind of a wild card amongst the competition, and the +450 return could make for a very profitable Friday night.
Janelle Salaun is shooting 39 percent on 6.3 attempts each contest from beyond the arc. The young forward finished with a three point percentage of 50 percent or higher in five out of the last seven games. If Salaun can find a shooting rhythm while managing pace and spotlight, the forward for the Valkyries has more than a puncher's chance to come away the three point title.
Rhyne Howard (+600)
Rhyne Howard is the second player on this list with experience in the WNBA Three Point Contest. Howard was invited in 2022, as a rookie, and finished in third place. The forward for the Dream advanced to the second round of the competition, yet fell short to a massive 30-point score from Allie Quigley.
Howard ranks right behind Mabrey in three-pointers made per game (3.2). The veteran forward has knocked down 79 three point baskets on the season, while leading the league in attempts (223). Howard is too good of a shooter to not put at least a sprinkle of your bankroll on for this contest. Oddsmakers are heavily counting Howard out as a formidable option to win tonight, and that may prove to be a mistake on their part.
