United States (-1100) vs. Italy (+700) | O/U 12.5 (-110/-110)

The United States (3-0) meets Italy (2-0) on Tuesday night at Daikin Park in Houston, as the host nation wraps up Pool B play. Italy will wrap up its pool schedule against Mexico on TUBI at 7 p.m. ET.

In a showdown on Monday night, USA took care of Mexico 5-3, and with a victory over Italy, USA can notch the top spot in the group. In the third inning, OFs Roman Anthony and Aaron Judge launched home runs, while RHP Paul Skenes twirled four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Skenes would have gone longer, but pitchers in pool play are limited to a 65-pitch cap. He threw 39 of his 60 pitches for strikes, and manager Paul DeRosa decided to take him out with just one hit and one walk allowed, as there was no sense letting him come out for the fifth inning.

Bobby Witt Jr. came alive with a pair of doubles and a walk, while Brice Turang was 1-for-4 with a double to raise his WBC average to .400. Anthony and Judge each have five RBI in the first three games, too.

Italy was off on Monday night. They earned the rest after a 7-4 win over Great Britain (0-3) on Sunday. The “Squadra Azzurra” still has a shot at the top spot in Pool B, but it must top USA and Mexico in back-to-back nights. Dante Nori set the table with two hits and an RBI in four at-bats from the leadoff spot, while Miles Mastrobuoni ended up 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI out of the ninth post.

For Tuesday’s game, RHP Nolan McLean is expected to start, although he had been previously under the weather, putting his start in some jeopardy. There were even reports he was dealing with vertigo-like symptoms, but all reports appear to indicate he’ll be ready to go.

Team USA should mow down Italy, especially with the underrated McLean, if he is at full health. With the top spot in Pool B on the line, don’t expect USA to take its foot off the gas, even with the expected emotional hangover after topping Mexico in front of a packed, raucous house on Monday. Still, it’s too expensive to bet USA straight up, costing 11 times your potential return. Let’s go Under on the total instead.

In addition, let’s look to the Anytime Home Run market for a couple of plays. Kyle Schwarber will help you more than double up, so he’s an attractive play. And, let’s take Aaron Judge, as he has surprisingly long odds for him.

Picks: Under 12.5 Runs (-110), Aaron Judge – Anytime HR (+210) & Kyle Schwarber – Anytime HR (+240)
