2022 Tour Championship: Best Long-Shot Bets Odds, Picks & Predictions

With the BMW Championship in the rearview mirror, we look forward to the third and final round of the FedEx Playoffs. To end the 2022 golf season, we have the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

East Lake Golf Club is a par 70, 7,346-yard track that features designs from Don Ross, Rees Jones, and Tom Bendelow. The TOUR Championship has been hosted at East Lake Golf Club every year since 2004.

In 2019, the current format was adopted where some golfers start with strokes based on their FedEx rank. See a complete list of the starting positioning here.

Looking at the three previous winners under this new format, three metrics stand them apart from the rest of their fields: SG: Tee-to-Green, SG: Off-the-Tee, and GIR%. Along with recent form, we will utilize their success in these three categories this season to help narrow down our betting picks.

Below, I will give out my best longshot to win the 2022 TOUR Championship.

2022 TOUR Championship: Best Long-Shot Odds & Picks

Joaquin Niemann (+7000): 0.2u

At 70/1, Joaquin Niemann is worth taking a flyer on to pull a rabbit out of a hat and win the TOUR Championship. While Niemann will start the tournament eight strokes behind the leader Scottie Scheffler, East Lake Golf Club is a venue where he could pull off the comeback.

This season, Niemann ranks ninth on TOUR in SG: Tee-to-Green, 15th in SG: Off-the-Tee, and 52nd in GIR%. Finishing eighth at the BMW Championship last week, Niemann has been playing some excellent golf.

Making the cut in four straight tournaments with three top-20 finishes, he will look to continue his stellar play against the world’s best. Aside from starting eight strokes back, we are also getting a generous line on Niemann due to his poor results at East Lake Golf Club.

In his two appearances, Niemann has finished in the bottom four each time. However, the 23-year-old continues to improve every year as he is on the verge of superstardom.

Additionally, Patrick Cantlay proved last year that It is better to have played at East Lake Golf Club previously with poor results than to have not played there at all. Prior to winning the 2021 TOUR Championship, Cantlay had failed to break 20th place in each of his three career appearances at this course.

Niemann is most likely a few more years away from joining the elites at the top. But everyone starts somewhere, and at 70/1, It is worth a shot that It starts for Niemann this week.
