2022 Tour Championship: Hideki Matsuyama Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

The PGA Tour’s 2021-2022 season comes to an end with this week’s Tour Championship. The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for a $65 million purse that includes a first-place prize of $18 million. No pressure, huh?

Defending champ Patrick Cantlay will be part of the field at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The tournament uses a Starting Strokes scoring system, effectively giving players a head start based on their position in the FedEx Cup point standings. As last season’s point leader, Cantlay began the Tour Championship at -10 and eventually finished at -21 on the par-70 host course.

This year, Scottie Scheffler enters the Tour Championship as the leader in the FedEx Cup point standings, followed by Cantlay (who won last week’s BMW Championship) and Will Zalatoris.

Read on to see how the BettingPros staff sizes up the odds for the top players in the field.

Hideki Matsuyama PGA Tour Championship History

A mainstay near the top of the PGA Tour for the past half-decade, Matsuyama has somewhat struggled here at East Lake in the time since. Finishing T4 and T9 in 2018 and 2019, Matsuyama has a pair of T26s and a T15 to round his five-year history.

Shooting a 77 out of the gates in last year’s Tour Championship, Matsuyama shot a 65 Friday but was never able to recover ending the week at even par.

Hideki Matsuyama’s Recent Form

Since finishing 4th at the US Open and June, Matsuyama has struggled mightily with a CUT, T68, withdrawal, and T35 just last week at the BMW. Dealing with an injury on top of non-stop LIV-defection rumors, Matsuyama has not been his normal self as of late and has failed to put together many good rounds down the back half of the season.

Hideki Matsuyama PGA Tour Championship Predictions

Falling all the way to 121st on Tour in SG: Putting following last week, Matsuyama’s putter has been ice cold as of late with no signs of improving. While we still await the matchups to be released, I’ll be fading eight-time PGA Tour winner in what might be his final PGA Tour event as a massive payday from LIV looms just around the corner.
