2022 Tour Championship: Matthew Fitzpatrick Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

The PGA Tour’s 2021-2022 season comes to an end with this week’s Tour Championship. The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for a $65 million purse, including a first-place prize of $18 million. No pressure, huh?

Defending champ Patrick Cantlay will be part of the field at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The tournament uses a Starting Strokes scoring system, effectively giving players a head start based on their position in the FedEx Cup point standings. As last season’s point leader, Cantlay began the Tour Championship at -10 and eventually finished at -21 on the par-70 host course.

This year, Scottie Scheffler enters the Tour Championship as the leader in the FedEx Cup point standings, followed by Cantlay (who won last week’s BMW Championship) and Will Zalatoris.

Read on to see how the BettingPros staff sizes up the odds for the top players in the field.

Matthew Fitzpatrick Tournament History

This will be the first Tour Championship for Matthew Fitzpatrick after what has been a break-out year for the 27-year-old Englishman.

Matthew Fitzpatrick Recent Form

Fitzpatrick has seen a fair amount of success this year, improving his current World Golf Ranking to 10th overall from 24th at the end of the 2020-2021 season. Fitzpatrick has 12 top-15 finishes this year, including his first career Major, winning the U.S. Open at The Country Club in June. Fitzpatrick will start the Tour Championship at -3, seven strokes behind the leader Scottie Scheffler at -10.

Matthew Fitzpatrick Tour Championship Prediction

After the season that Fitzpatrick has put together this year, including winning a Major and being in contention far more often than not, it’s hard to count him out from being in the mix this week at the Tour Championship. This will be Fitzpatrick’s first attempt at the Tour Championship payout. The first-place prize is $18,000,000, more than Fitzpatrick’s total career earnings of under $14,000,000. A top-five finish (3.5-1 on DraftKings) or a top-10 finish (1.1-1 on DraftKings) would be the better bet this week rather than the outright winner. The staggered scoring giving head starts to the FedExCup points leaders ahead of him may be too much to overcome in his first attempt at East Lake Golf Club.
