With last week’s Genesis Scottish Open in the rear-view mirror, we now look forward to this week’s Barracuda Championship, which serves as an alternate event to the British Open. The Greenwood Course at Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California, will host this event, which it has done annually since 2020.
Tahoe Mountain Club is a par-71, 7,480-yard track designed by Jack Nicklaus that features bentgrass greens. This event is co-sanctioned with the European Tour and features the Modified Stableford scoring system, which benefits aggressive players.
Below, I will give out my two best longshot bets to win the 2023 Barracuda Championship.

The first golfer we are targeting this week is Justin Lower, who currently sits at 100/1 via FanDuel. Entering this tournament in good form, Lower has made three of his past four cuts, including his eighth-place finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
A good putter, he gained an average of +0.52 strokes putting across the Barbasol Championship, the Memorial Tournament, and Charles Schwab Challenge, three tournaments contested on bentgrass greens. An aggressive player, Lower ranks 61st on TOUR this season in Par Breakers Percentage, which measures how often a player scores birdie or better.
That aggressive play should treat Lower well in this tournament, a venue at which he finished 16th last year.
Carson Young (+10000 via DraftKings): 0.27u
Another golfer to target this week is Carson Young, who currently sits at 100/1 via FanDuel. Also entering this tournament in good form, Young has made seven of his past 11 cuts with five Top 25 finishes.
One of those finishes included his T19 performance at the RBC Heritage, a tournament that is also contested at a Jack Nicklaus designed course. Additionally, Young has gained strokes putting in each of his past three tournaments contested on bentgrass greens, including his T15 finish at the Travelers Championship and T21 finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
An aggressive golfer, Young ranks 75th on TOUR this season in Par Breakers Percentage. He has never played at Tahoe Mountain Club, which is why his odds are this long, but his profile sets up nicely for this event against a very watered-down field.
