The MLB prop bet cheat sheet for Friday lists 40 player props with a 100% hit rate over the last five games - with only three labeled as a 5-star bet.
Two of today’s qualifying props belong to Dane Myers, one of which is for him to go over 0.5 combined hits + runs + RBIs.
The Cincinnati Reds center fielder has hit the over on this combo prop in five straight games, and has a 52% hit rate to the over on the season. During his five-game over streak, Myers has averaged 1.8 combined hits + runs + RBIs, with four straight performances of two combined hits + runs + RBIs.
The one part of this combo prop we’ll focus on is hits, as Myers has recorded only one RBI and three runs across 35 at-bats in 12 July games, but does have 12 hits, including in five straight games. All we need is for him to get one hit, score once or drive in a run.
With Meyers on a five-game hit streak and recording at least one hit in eight of his last 10 games, that’s the angle we’re hoping will take us to the pay window with this prop bet. The one major hindrance to that is Myers’ opponent today: Paul Skenes.
Skenes is one of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball, and looking at his hits allowed stats, he’s averaging 4.3 hits allowed per game in his career. That’s plain nasty. There is a silver lining. Skenes has two starts against the Reds this season. While Meyers didn’t start either game, he did come on as a pinch-hitter in one of those games and recorded one hit in two at-bats.
There must be something about Myers as a pinch-hitter because the only other time the two faced off was last season, when Myers was a member of the Miami Marlins, and he once again went 1-for-2 as a pinch-hitter versus Skenes. Albeit, a very small sample size, it is encouraging that Myers has gone 2-for-4 against Skenes in his career.
Looking at the splits, the right-handed Myers has a higher batting average (.286) versus fellow righties than he does lefties (.254), while righties also have better numbers versus the right-handed Skenes (.237 vs. .214).
The MLB Prop Bet Cheat Sheet projects Myers for 1.8 combined hits + runs + RBIs, with an 82% cover probability. It’s hard not to trust the cheat sheet when it has such a high conviction, including a +40 projection EV.
