Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans NFL Sports Betting Guide

The Buffalo Bills are coming off their first loss of the season. The team and its fans would probably be a lot happier if that was the only adversity they were dealing with heading into Week 5. Instead, there are plenty of question marks surrounding the team’s most important player heading into a trip to face the Tennessee Titans this Sunday as franchise quarterback Josh Allen is in the concussion protocol after being knocked out of Buffalo’s 16-10 loss to the New England Patriots. Can the Bills win on the road without Allen, or will their positive 3-0 start turn to a modest 3-2 this weekend?

Overview

While the NFL continues its 100th season celebrations with an in-depth look back at the Music City Miracle, Tennessee is focused on climbing above .500 with a win on Sunday. Marcus Mariota is coming off his best performance of the season after throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Falcons. Meanwhile, the Titans have had no trouble moving the football on the ground with running back Derrick Henry coming off another 100-yard rushing performance. Henry has scored at least one touchdown in seven of his last nine games. Life should get easier for him now that left tackle Taylor Lewan is back from his four-game suspension.

Meanwhile, Buffalo might have to lean on its rushing attack if Allen isn’t good to go. Matt Barkley is preparing this week as though he is the starter. While he isn’t the worst backup in the league by any means, he will be in a tough spot to move the football through the air against a Titans’ defense that just shut down Matt Ryan and Atlanta last week. Running back Frank Gore had a season-high 109 rushing yards last week. He should be featured heavily in this contest. Meanwhile, the Bills will need another outstanding performance from their defense in order to have a shot. Buffalo has allowed an average of 15.8 points per game this season. After holding Tom Brady and the Patriots to 16 points last week, the Bills need to make sure they avoid any sort of a letdown this Sunday.

Trends

  • Bills have won the last 2 meetings between these teams
  • Buffalo is 2-0 ATS on the road this season
  • Tennessee is 15-5 SU in last 20 home games
  • The under has hit in 7 of the 8 games played by these teams this season

Bottom Line

While Buffalo’s defense was the biggest reason for their 3-0 start, the loss of Allen will impact this team on both sides of the football. It’s worth noting that Allen isn’t out for sure, but it is trending in that direction.

If Allen is out, I have a tough time betting a side in this game. Of course, the Titans will be appealing at home, but one good game from Mariota won’t sway me. He could play just as poorly as Matt Barkley this week.

This is a matchup of two teams who are going to run the ball and play defense, and that should lead to an under. I’m not expecting many explosive plays here.
