Saturday’s Best College Baseball World Series Picks

Florida State Seminoles (+100) at Oregon State Beavers (-128) | O/U 10.5 (-135/+108)
The Seminoles (41-14) and the Beavers (45-13-1) meet in Corvallis for Game 1 on Friday night at 6 p.m. ET. The game can be viewed or streamed on ESPN2.
Florida State got the job done in the Tallahassee Regional at Dick Howser Stadium, topping No. 4 seed Bethune Cookman 6-2 in Game 1, before belting No. 3 seed Mississippi State 10-3 on Saturday, May 31. The Bulldogs played their way into the regional final, but the Seminoles were much too strong, winning 5-2.
In the win over Hail State, the Seminoles collected 10 hits, including a 2-for-5 effort by 3B Cal Fisher, who dialed long distance for the team’s only home run. 1B Myles Bailey had a single, double and a walk with a run scored and an RBI in four at-bats and five plate appearances, although he also struck out twice, too. OF Chase Williams came up big with a pair of hits in four at-bats, including a double, while C Jaxson West showed off a discerning eye, drawing two walks, while going 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Wes Mendes took care of the pitching, allowing just two runs and five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts across eight strong innings. Mendez racked up 105 pitches in the victory, while Joe Charles came on in the ninth to strike out the side.
Oregon State had a little more of an adventure, falling to No. 4 seed Saint Mary’s in the first game. However, the Beavers more than rebounded in the final two victories, avoiding an embarrassing loss as regional hosts. They routed former Pac-12 foe USC 14-1 to set up a winner-take-all in the regional final on Monday, and they belted the Trojans again, 9-0.
In the final against USC, SS Aiva Arquette and OF Gavin Turley had back-to-back home runs, giving each player 18 round-trippers on the season. Arquette is a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, as he hopes to lock in on the nation’s top amateur baseball player award.
It’s going to be an uphill climb for the Seminoles, traveling to the West Coast to battle the Beavers in their place. Take Oregon State straight up, but look for plenty of offense in a potential slugfest.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (+124) at Auburn Tigers (-160) | O/U 10.5 (-132/+106)
The Chanticleers (51-11) and the Tigers (41-18) square off on the Plains at 9 p.m. ET, also on ESPN2. Coastal Carolina is under the leadership of first-year manager Kevin Schnall, and he has done a good job keeping the program up after Gary Gilmore retired. You’ll remember, Gilmore steered the Chants to baseball immortality with a stunning 2016 National Championship.
Even Auburn hasn’t experienced those lofty achievements, but this year’s Tigers team is certainly capable of hoisting the National Championship trophy.
Coastal Carolina has a team ERA of 3.22, which is actually the lowest of all 16 remaining teams in the Super Regional round. It’s pitching staff will be put to the test against an Auburn offense which racked up 129 doubles to lead the SEC. Auburn’s offense was on full display in an 11-1 victory over NC State in the regional final Sunday.
The Tigers offense rolled up huge totals at the top of the line, as 2B Chris Rembert led things off with a 4-for-6 game, including a double, two runs scored and four RBI. OF Bub Terrell went 4-for-5 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI, while OF Ike Irish had the big blow with the team’s only home run, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI and a walk. The rest of the lineup didn’t do much, but they didn’t have to. Auburn finished with 15 hits and nine walks, while posting 11 runs and 11 RBI. Of course, they also struck out 13 times.
This is pitching versus hitting. The thing is, the Tigers are on their home field, and that’s likely not going to end well for the No. 13 Chants. Let’s back Auburn at a moderate price straight up, and if you’re a little more adventurous, Tigers -1.5 (+120) at plus-money might be attractive to you. We’ll side with the Under, too, especially at plus-money, as CCU’s pitching staff can be tough, especially early on.
