College Football Picks: Florida A&M vs. Miami (Thursday)

College Football Picks: Florida A&M vs. Miami (Thursday)

Last week, we had a handful of college football games on Thursday, giving us options for our viewing and betting pleasure. This week, we have one game: Florida A&M Rattlers (1-1) versus No. 7 Miami Hurricanes. It would be an absolute shock of the upset-of-the-century variety if the Rattlers were to win, hence sportsbooks not even offering Moneyline odds. Let’s go over the best college football picks for this huge mismatch.

College Football Picks: Florida A&M vs. No. 7 Miami

Hurricanes -34.5 First Half (-130)

The Hurricanes also have a solid chance to cover the game spread (59.5 points). We are talking about a College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship contender in Miami playing a mediocre 1-1 FCS team that went 5-7 last year. Miami will look to fix what they didn't like about their performance versus Stanford in the first half last week, then start taking people out.

The Hurricanes got out to a 28-6 lead against Stanford last week at the break. Assuming they play better this week, as they should, they might score 28 in the first quarter. If Florida A&M scores before the fourth quarter, I'll be shocked.

Rattlers Team Total Under 2.5 Points (-106)

Yes, I am saying the Rattlers will not even get the "at least we didn't get shut out" field goal late in the game. They managed just 161 yards of offense against South Carolina State (and 13 points). If that's all they can do against a competitive FCS team, we can't expect them to do much (if anything) against one of the best FBS teams in the nation.

Over 65.5 Points (-115)

I was initially very hesitant to recommend this market. It’s hard to say how hard Miami will play in the second half. But then I saw that the Rattlers gave up 479 yards of offense to South Carolina State last week, including 292 yards on the ground. There is no chance they slow down Miami if they can’t slow down South Carolina State.

Like most teams, Miami was working out the kinks in their season opener and seeing what needed tweaking. They'll make those changes this week and play a solid game against an easy opponent. Miami put up 70 points on the Rattlers back in 2016; they may surpass that number tonight.

Rattler Under 132.5 Total Yards (-114)

The Rattlers recorded just 260 yards against Albany State in their season opener and 161 yards against South Carolina State. Miami allowed Stanford to gain 299 yards while not playing their best game. Don't count on seeing the Hurricanes’ A+ game this week. But we'll see a solid A effort. I'd be surprised if Florida A&M gained 100 yards.
