Forever Coogs (Houston) vs. Aftershocks (Wichita State)
On Sunday, the Forever Coogs came out blazing, going up 17 at the half against the Fire Family in the Round of 32. The Houston Cougars alumnus team got 22 points from Tevin Smith and another 20 from Tyrece Radford. This team only went seven deep, and four of the seven players scored fewer than eight points. Ultimately, every player took at least five attempts, and no player shot more than 12 attempts. They’re a balanced group and anyone can get hot at the right time.
Meanwhile, the Aftershocks were just as impressive in their Round of 32 win. The Wichita State team got 25 from Nike Sibande off the bench. Leyton Hammonds contributed 16 points and was second on the team in scoring, despite also coming off the bench. Wichita State played three bench players more than any starter. They’re also very deep. However, they’ll need to determine their starting five and utilize the right combinations for more minutes.
I’m expecting a high-scoring game between two teams that have plenty of playmaking and scoring options.
