The fall sports season is officially in full swing as college and pro football are back in action, along with the MLB postseason race heating up. It's a light football slate tonight, so I'm staying on the diamond for my favorite plays. Let's dive into my top three To Hit a Home Run prop bets.
Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook
Best Home Run Prop Bets: Friday (9/8)
Carlos Santana (+390) & Mark Canha (+750)
The Brewers are in sole possession of the N.L. Central lead (+2.0 games), and they'll make the trip to the Bronx this weekend. Luis Severino gets the nod for New York, while Milwaukee counters with Colin Rea.
Severino is having a very forgettable year as he comes into tonight's game at 4-8 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.66 WHIP. He has been getting worked by the long ball, considering his HR/9 rate currently sits at 2.32. That's the highest amongst today's starters who have pitched at least 20.0 innings.
I'm going to back two members of the Brew Crew to go deep tonight: Carlos Santana and Mark Canha. Both players were reinforcements brought in at the trade deadline. Canha is thriving in Milwaukee, hitting .305 with an OPS of .851. He only has nine big flies this year, but this is a good chance for him to collect another. The outfielder is 2-8 (.250) against Severino with a homer and a double. As for Santana, he's just 4-19 (.211) against the right-hander but has a pair of bombs and a double. He has 19 tanks this season, seven of which have come over his 32 games with Milwaukee.
Ronald Acuna Jr. (+425)
The Braves are on the warpath this year, and they're easily the deepest lineup in baseball. They'll face off against Mitch Keller as they host the lousy Pittsburgh Pirates for a trio of games.
Keller is actually putting together a solid season, coming in at 11-8 with a 3.93 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. There were murmurings of him getting dealt at the deadline, but Pittsburgh decided to hang onto the right-hander.
While Keller boasts a respectable 1.06 HR/9 rate, I have to fade him against this powerful Atlanta squad. They've blasted 270 home runs this year, which is by far the most in baseball (LAD is second at 217). To put this into perspective, the Braves are on pace to hit 314 home runs, which would beat Minnesota's record of 307 back in 2019.
So, I'll take this opportunity to lock in MVP frontrunner Ronald Acuna Jr. (-300 to win MVP) to go yard tonight. The superstar has amassed 34 bombs this season, which is the 11th-most in the league. As for the head-to-head numbers, he's 3-11 (.273) against Keller with two homers. Let's ride with Ronald tonight.
