Let's get things started in Pittsburgh, where the Pirates (25-40) are looking to break out the brooms against the visiting Phillies (37-27). Cristopher Sanchez gets the nod for the Phils, while the Buccos opt for Paul Skenes. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET from PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA.
With a total of just seven runs, I'm expecting a pitcher's duel in Pittsburgh today. Cristopher Sanchez has a solid strikeout repertoire, as his 74 strikeouts are the 28th-most in the Majors. He brings in an excellent 10.14 K/9 rate, which is the sixth-highest among today's starting pitchers.
Sanchez takes on a Pirates club striking out at a 28.4% clip over the last seven days, which is the third-highest rate in the league. The southpaw has limited their current roster to a 10-for-45 (.222) performance, including 13 strikeouts. That's a 28.9% strikeout rate in the head-to-head department. In my opinion, this number of 5.5 punchouts is pretty low, so I'll lock in the more than.
Like the Phillies, the Diamondbacks (31-33) find themselves on the verge of a sweep after dropping the first two games of their road series to the Reds (32-33). Zac Gallen will toe the rubber for the Snakes, while the Red Legs counter with Brady Singer. This National League showdown gets underway at 1:40 p.m. ET from the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, OH.
Cincinnati's Brady Singer (4.68 ERA) hasn't been very sharp in his last six outings, posting a 6.23 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched. In those six starts, he's eclipsed this number of 1.5 free passes on four occasions. Singer will face an Arizona lineup that leads the league in walk rate over the last seven days (12.1%). Considering the form of both parties, I'll take the more than on 1.5 walks issued.
I'll conclude my PrizePicks card out West in this divisional matchup between the Mariners (32-31) and the Angels (30-33). George Kirby heads to the bump for the M's, while the Halos send Tyler Anderson to oppose him. First pitch is set for 4:07 p.m. ET from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA.
Since returning from injury, Mike Trout has been on a tear. In seven games, he's 10-for-23 (.435) with a home run and a double. He has five RBI and three runs scored during the seven-game sample size. Trout has seen Seattle's George Kirby well, going 3-for-6 (.500) against him with a home run. Kirby has been atrocious this season, bringing in an 8.56 ERA and a.183 WHIP over 13.2 innings of work. I like Trout and this upward-trending Angels offense to find success this afternoon.
