Happy National Hot Dog Day! PrizePicks has a couple of Discount Dogs in the strikeout department to choose from. Per usual the focus will be on pitcher props for this slate of games. Let’s get back to the winning ways with these PrizePicks plays for Wednesday, July 19th.

Wednesday's Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This season: 46-27-3
Eduardo Rodriguez Over 6 Strikeouts
E-Rod is one of the three Discount Dogs available, with his line shortened to 4.5. Personally, I’d save your Dog for another starter I’ll mention in a bit. I wrote this up last night on Twitter when the line was at 5.5, and I still like this play even at 6 Ks. Rodriguez gets a dream matchup against the Royals, who have the highest K% (31.2%) and 7th worst wRC+ (78) against left-handed pitching over the last 30 days. E-Rod had 9 Ks across 5 innings vs. them on 5/23 and has 6+ strikeouts in 8 of his last 10 starts averaging 7.2 per outing over this span.

Kenta Maeda Over 5.5 Strikeouts
Kenta really labored last start with this control and still somehow found six punchouts in just three innings against Oakland. Since coming off the injured list, he has cleared this in three of his last four starts. Maeda had eight against Detroit, four against Atlanta, nine against Kansas City, and the aforementioned six against the A’s.
Tonight he draws a favorable matchup facing the Mariners, who have the 3rd highest K% (25.9%) against righties over the last 30 days. These strikeout woes have been a consistent story for Seattle all season long, and their roster has a ~41% K% and .233 xwOBA in 49 plate appearances against Kenta. When facing righties, they have the 4th highest K% vs. four-seam-fastballs, 5th highest vs. sliders, and 9th highest vs. splitters. Those are Maeda’s three primary pitches in his arsenal, so plenty of strikeouts should be on the horizon for him tonight.
Luis Castillo Over 6 Strikeouts (Discount Dog)
This is where I would use that Discount Dog today. This game in Seattle will also have plenty of strikeouts with the Twins in town. Minnesota is the only team with a higher strikeout rate against righties than Seattle on the season. Over the last 30 days, they have the t-1st worst K% (27.2%) vs. RHP, and facing one of the premier righties in the game will do them no services today.
Luis Castillo ranks in the top 86% in whiff%, 72% in K%, and chase rate, and has 6+ punchouts in 13 of his 19 starts. Considering their K% over the course of the season, it’s really no surprise to see where the Twins rate against Castillo’s pitches. They have the 3rd highest K% vs. changeups and four-seamers, 4th highest against sliders, but do fair well against sinkers. Back Castillo with confidence today.
