Saturday's Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Zac Gallen has raised his strikeout rate from 24.5% last season to 29.2% this season.
Gallen has struck out 33.3% of righties and 23.7% of lefties. That’s ideal, as he’s taking on a Giants lineup that has struck out 22.9% of the time since last season.
Six of the nine batters in the projected lineup have also struck out at least 22.7% of the time. While he needs six strikeouts, Gallen also has six targets he’ll likely face multiple times in this game. Let’s ride the more than for Gallen in this spot.
The Phillies will face Michael Soroka of the White Sox tonight. Soroka is a right-handed thrower who has allowed a .224 ISO and wOBA of .397 to his first 89 batters this season.
He’s walked more batters than he’s struck out this year. But he’s also been way worse to righties, allowing those batters a .256 ISO and wOBA of .357.
Meanwhile, Trea Turner has hit a .193 ISO and wOBA of .355 against righties since last season. He’s in line for a multiple-hit day or at least one extra-base hit.
Here’s an Oakland Athletics more than play. You’re not going to see many of these this season.
That said, Logan Allen will take the hill for the Cleveland Guardians. He’s a lefty who has watched his first 73 righties hit a .269 ISO and wOBA of .384. Allen has also struck out only 17.8% of those righties and has allowed 23.6% of line drive contact.
Oakland doesn’t have the most effective lineup. However, a righty, Brent Rooker, has smashed a .255 ISO and wOBA of .389 for the Athletics against lefties since last season. He’s got a high strikeout rate, but with Allen’s low strikeout rate, Rooker’s potential of putting the ball in play is higher. Take the more than.
While Jose Berrios has started the season strong, he’s only added 21% of strikeouts to begin the year. In addition, he’s added just 13.8% of strikeouts against his first 65 righties.
Berrios will face a projected San Diego lineup with more righties than lefties. The lineup has also struck out only 18.3% of the time against righties since last season. Berrios might throw a quality start. But it won’t be from earning high strikeouts.
