MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 119-75 (61.3%)
This is a lofty line, but one Chris Sale deserves. He has gone over it in eight of his last 10 starts after all and ranks in the top 97th percentile in K% and CSW% among starting pitchers. The San Francisco Giants have been hot against left-handed pitching as of late, but it’s not like they’re lining up vs. Chris Sale routinely. We did just see Justin Steele find eight and nine punchouts against them more recently, too, so let’s ride the hot streak with Sale here.
We took the less than on his strikeout prop last start against the Angels when it was at 4.5, so you best believe we’re fading him at 5.5. He faces the Angels again, which typically bodes well for the offense with him being fresh in their memories. Joey Estes was never profiled as a strikeout pitcher in the minors, and projections via FanGraphs have him pegged for a K/9 hovering around 7.0 going forward. He has stayed under this mark in seven of his nine starts this season.
Ronel Blanco can struggle with his control but has done an excellent job limiting damage done via hits. He ranks in the top 82nd percentile in expected opponent batting average. The Astros right-hander has stayed under this mark in all but one of his 16 starts this season. He takes on Toronto, who has been middle of the pack in terms of batting average (.241 over the past 30 days against righties) throughout the year.
