Los Angeles Lakers vs. New York Knicks

Mikal Bridges has scored at least 18 points in two of his last three games. He added only 10 points in 33 minutes against Portland, but his usage was extremely low in that game. Expect it to be much higher against the Los Angeles Lakers, who rank dead last in points allowed to small forwards this season. Bridges has shot above 49% from the field in the previous 10 games and has attempted over 13 shots per game. He should see success against the Lakers.

However, teammate Karl-Anthony Towns might not. Towns has scored no more than 17 points in five straight games. He’s had a usage rate below 20% over the last two games and is shooting 45.4% from the field during that stretch, while averaging just 12.6 shots per game. He’s taking fewer shots per game than Bridges. Meanwhile, the Lakers rank third in the NBA in points allowed to centers. They’re also one of the best teams at defending the three against centers and not allowing free-throw attempts.

Jake LaRavia has scored no more than six points in each of his last two games. The minutes are there, but the usage isn’t. In fact, he had a 6.4% usage rate against the Wizards last time out. Plus, the Knicks rank fourth in field goal rate allowed to power forwards this season. LaRavia has hit 38.8% from the field over the last 10 games. That won’t get the job done against the Knicks.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Denver Nuggets

Jamal Murray has scored at least 23 points in 68% of games this season. However, he might struggle to continue that pace with Nikola Jokic reportedly returning. Murray has scored at least 23 points in just four of his last 14 games against the Thunder, averaging 19.1 points per game during that stretch. The Thunder rank first in points allowed to point guards and have been dominant defensively against point guards for years.

But it likely won’t be just Murray who will struggle. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is going up against a Nuggets team ranked first in three-point rate and second in points allowed to point guards this season. They’ve been elite at keeping point guards off the foul line. That will be critical in this one.

Finally, let’s ride with Tim Hardaway Jr. to earn at least three rebounds. He’s nailed this line in four of his last five games and has recorded at least four rebounds in three of his previous four games. Hardaway has had at least eight rebound chances in two of the last three games. The Thunder rank 29th in defensive rebounds allowed to shooting guards this season.
