NFL Week 5 First Touchdown Scorers Picks & Predictions
Indianapolis Colts @ Pittsburgh Steelers
I'm riding with the hot hand this week. Roman Wilson has scored the first touchdown in each of the Steelers' last two games, and he has a juicy matchup this week. The Colts are awful at defending slot receivers, and I would not be surprised to see Wilson's snap share rise.
Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to miss multiple weeks, so Aaron Rodgers will have to count on DK Metcalf and Wilson. Wilson is second on the team with 24 targets through four weeks, including two red-zone targets. They have allowed the second-most yards per target to slot receivers this season. Wilson should have a solid chance of scoring first for the third consecutive week.
Pick: Roman Wilson (+1500 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
The Bears are still without Caleb Williams, so Tyson Bagent is under center again this week. The offense has turned to the ground game without Williams, and it is working well. They are averaging a league-high 196.3 rushing yards per game.
Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) is dealing with multiple injuries, keeping him out of practice on Thursday. D'Andre Swift should get the majority of the workload this week without Monangai, and his usual totes if Monangai plays. Monangai has taken over twice this season, but Swift has at least 15 carries in every game. Swift is a solid play to score first against a weak Packers defense.
Pick: D'Andre Swift (+600 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks
Mike Evans has not lost a step with the 49ers. He has two touchdowns on the season and played through a rib injury last week. He finished with five receptions for 76 yards. The Seahawks are a tough matchup, but he could still find the end zone first.
Evans is a tough matchup in the red zone, especially when defenses have to worry about Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle. Purdy is looking to Evans in the red zone, with four targets. Deebo Samuel and Kittle each have five, but Evans should get a crack at the first touchdown in a divisional matchup.
Pick: Mike Evans (+1250 at BetMGM)
Detroit Lions @ Arizona Cardinals
The total in this game is 54.5, so there should be a lot of points. The Lions allow 31.8 points per game, and the Cardinals allow 29.3, the second- and fourth-most in the league, respectively. Trey McBride may have the best matchup of any player.
The Lions allowed tight ends to score two touchdowns per game in the first three weeks. They only allowed 56 yards to the position last week against the Panthers. McBride is a lot better than any tight end the Panthers have. Jacoby Brissett peppers McBride with targets and should look his way early and often.
Pick: Trey McBride (+1000 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
