How else are the Chiefs going to rack up yards in this game? Isiah Pacheco is out, and though Carson Steele has been fine, there's no way he can carry the load in the same way Pacheco would have. The Falcons don't have a very good run defense, but even they can stop Steele and Samaje Perine.
Mahomes only threw for 151 yards last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, but the Bengals have always done a fairly good job of prepping for Mahomes throughout his career. He threw for 291 yards in Week 1, and he's likely to set a season-high in passing yards on Sunday night, because there's no one else for this offense to turn to. The Falcons' secondary has been okay to start, but this is Mahomes we're talking about.
If Mahomes is going to have a big night, then his favorite target is going to as well. A lot of bettors may be thinking that it's time for Travis Kelce's breakout game, but the Falcons have done a good job defending tight ends to start the season. They haven't done as well against number-one wide receivers.
In Week 1, George Pickens caught six passes for 85 yards, and in Week 2, DeVonta Smith caught seven for 76 and one touchdown. Rice went for 103 in Week 1, then followed it up with a 75-yard performance last week, despite the Chiefs' offensive struggles. This is a good matchup with a game script that favors the passing attack, even if the Chiefs lead from start to finish.
Pitts has caught six passes this season, but he's only racked up 46 yards thus far. Don't let that concern you this week. This is one of the best matchups he's going to face this season, and because the Falcons are likely to be trailing for the majority of this game, they're going to be passing. Pitts will be open a lot, as the Chiefs have been terrible at covering tight ends thus far.
In Week 1, Isaiah Likely caught nine passes for 111 yards and one touchdown. In Week 2, Mike Gesicki caught seven passes for 91 yards. The Chiefs are really good at taking away wide receivers, especially number-one targets, but they've struggled against tight ends this season. Kirk Cousins is experienced enough to take advantage of this matchup on Sunday.
