NFL Sunday Night Football Touchdown Scorers: Colts vs. Chiefs

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Indianapolis Colts First TD Scorer: Jonathan Taylor (+185)

Unfortunately, the Colts' passing attack struggled last week in Daniel Jones' first game since tearing his Achilles. However, Jonathan Taylor was outstanding to start the season.

The former Wisconsin star had 19 rushing attempts for 98 yards and two touchdowns against a talented Baltimore Ravens defense. More importantly, the superstar scored Indianapolis’ first touchdown of the year. Therefore, it's no surprise that Taylor is the heavy favorite to score the team's first touchdown on Sunday night.

Many were shocked at how well Kansas City's defense played in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. However, the Broncos' offense made life easy for the Chiefs.

Despite Bo Nix coming off a fractured ankle, Denver gave up on the run game. Their running back unit had only 11 rushing attempts in Week 1. The Colts won't make the same mistake twice. Expect Taylor to have a massive workload and find the end zone at least once.

Kansas City Chiefs First TD Scorer: Kenneth Walker III (+180)

In case you didn't watch the Chiefs' Week 1 win over the Broncos, Kenneth Walker III was an unstoppable force. The former Michigan State star had 23 rushing attempts for 173 yards and a touchdown.

Furthermore, the star running back was a factor in the passing game, totaling three receptions on a team-high six targets for 18 receiving yards and a touchdown. He accounted for half of Kansas City's four touchdowns in Week 1.

Some might fear the Chiefs will lighten Walker's workload on Sunday night after the veteran had 26 touches last week. However, that would be a mistake. The Colts' run defense was atrocious in Week 1 against the Ravens.

Baltimore scored six touchdowns in their blowout victory, including five on the ground. Derrick Henry had three of those five rushing touchdowns. More importantly, Kareem Hunt scored the first Kansas City touchdown in last season's matchup against Indianapolis.

Anytime TD Scorer: Rashee Rice (+150)

The Chiefs leaned on the run game in Week 1, totaling 38 rushing attempts. By comparison, Patrick Mahomes had 27 pass attempts, completing only 15.

Rashee Rice found the end zone on Monday night for the first time since Week 13 last year despite receiving only two targets. However, that won't happen again in Week 2. The Colts struggled to contain Zay Flowers last week, allowing 150 receiving yards and a touchdown in the first half.

Despite missing half of the 2025 season with a concussion and suspension, Rice led Kansas City in receiving touchdowns, totaling five scores in eight games. More importantly, the former SMU star scored the only touchdown that didn’t come courtesy of Patrick Mahomes or Kenneth Walker III in Week 1, despite facing an elite Denver secondary.

While the star wide receiver didn't find the end zone in last year's Week 12 matchup against the Colts, Rice had over 140 receiving yards and 12 targets.

Anytime TD Scorer: Tyler Warren (+235)

Hopefully, Indianapolis' passing attack can get in gear after struggling in Week 1. Bettors should expect Daniel Jones to play better in his second game following his Achilles tear.

The one part of the Colts' passing attack that was solid last week was Tyler Warren. The former Penn State star had five targets against a talented Baltimore secondary, totaling three receptions for 13 receiving yards. More importantly, he scored Indianapolis’ only non-Jonathan Taylor touchdown last week.

Kansas City's defense was outstanding in Week 1, shutting down Denver's offense. Despite holding the Broncos to just 10 points, the Chiefs struggled to slow down Evan Engram. The veteran tight end was Denver's best weapon in the passing game, totaling four receptions on five targets for 43 receiving yards and the team's only touchdown of the game.

Meanwhile, tight end Drew Ogletree found the end zone in last year's matchup between these two teams.
