Dallas Wings vs. Minnesota Lynx Prediction & Pick

Minnesota is picking up right where they left off after making the WNBA Finals last year. The Lynx have looked dominant with two strong performances offensively, averaging 94.0 PPG. They've been led by Naphessa Collier, who has scored 28.5 PPG with 5.0 RPG.

On Friday when these two teams met, Collier put up an impressive 34 PTS, 4 REB, 4 AST performance on the way to a 99-84 win for the Lynx. As a team, the Lynx shot 53% from the floor and recorded 27 assists on 35 field goals made. Dallas really wasn't able to slow down the Minnesota offense.

One area where Dallas was able to perform well was on the fast break. The Wings tried to run as many chances as they could. They put up 21 fast break points and added 40 paint points. They were able to get theirs despite poor shooting performances by their guards. I like them to clean some things up on the offensive end and keep this a high-scoring affair.

Washington Mystics vs. Golden State Valkyries Prediction & Pick

The expansion Valkyries got their season started on Friday against the Sparks. It wasn't a great performance as they lost 84-67. Golden State shot just 36.5% from the floor and a putrid 25.7% from deep. This isn't a very talented lineup and it showed against a shorthanded Sparks team.

Meanwhile, Washington has quietly been one of the biggest turnarounds from last year. They've impressed offensively with wins over Atlanta and Connecticut, where they managed to eclipse 90 points in each. They've shot a scorching 42.4% from deep, although the majority of their damage has been done in the paint.

The Valkyries allowed 40 points in the paint against Los Angeles, and I expect Washington to have success there. If Washington is able to score in the high 80s or more, I don't think Golden State has the ability to keep pace offensively. Expect the impressive start for Washington to continue.

Pick: Mystics -5 (-115)

Los Angeles Sparks vs. Phoenix Mercury Prediction & Pick

These teams put together two of the more impressive defensive performances early in the season. Los Angeles allowed just 67 points on 36.5% shooting against Golden State while the Mercury shut down the Storm, allowing 59 points on 33.3% shooting and 17.6% from deep.

The Sparks followed up that initial performance with a 14-point loss to the Lynx. But the Lynx are in a class above the Sparks and likely the Mercury. There is a lot to like from both of these defenses despite both of them sitting in the bottom four of the league in DRtg in 2024.

Last year's results are likely playing a big part in this point total. Both of these teams will be improved this year on the defensive end, and I'll take the early value on this line.
