2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions: Course Preview & Betting Stats to Know

The PGA Tour’s 2021-2022 season comes to an end with this week’s Tour Championship. The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for a $65 million purse, including a first-place prize of $18 million. No pressure, huh?

Defending champ Patrick Cantlay will be part of the field at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The tournament uses a Starting Strokes scoring system, effectively giving players a head start based on their position in the FedEx Cup point standings. As last season’s point leader, Cantlay began the Tour Championship at -10 and eventually finished at -21 on the par-70 host course. This year, Scottie Scheffler enters the Tour Championship as the leader in the FedEx Cup point standings, followed by Cantlay (who won last week’s BMW Championship) and Will Zalatoris. Read on to see how the BettingPros staff sizes up the odds for the top players in the field.

Cameron Smith Tournament History

Cameron Smith has fared well at the Tour Championship over the last three years. He has regressed slightly over each of the last three years, but to go from top five, to top ten, and then to top fifteen, is something that I know most golfers would kill for. Anytime you are finishing at a high level like this consistently, you know a player is very comfortable with the stage

Cameron Smith’s Recent Form

Outside of not participating at all in the BMW Championship last time out, Smith has been absolutely rolling of late. Three top fifteen finishes, including a win at The Open Championship has Smith poised to give another strong showing this weekend! Look for him to show signs of how healthy/fit he is to compete early on and if he looks healthy, expect the odds to get lower very quickly.

Cameron Smith PGA Championship Prediction

Given the fact that he missed the last tournament, one could say the odds reflect a fear that he may not be up to playing his best game this time around. If he is fit to play though, I think 20/1 is an absolute steal to get the #2 golfer in the world at a tournament that he has historically played well at, even if he hasn’t broken through with a win yet.
