2022 Tour Championship: Cameron Young Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

The PGA Tour’s 2021-2022 season comes to an end with this week’s Tour Championship. The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for a $65 million purse that includes a first-place prize of $18 million. No pressure, huh?

Defending champ Patrick Cantlay will be part of the field at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The tournament uses a Starting Strokes scoring system, effectively giving players a head start based on their position in the FedEx Cup point standings. As last season’s point leader, Cantlay began the Tour Championship at -10 and eventually finished at -21 on the par-70 host course.

This year, Scottie Scheffler enters the Tour Championship as the leader in the FedEx Cup point standings, followed by Cantlay (who won last week’s BMW Championship) and Will Zalatoris.

Read on to see how the BettingPros staff sizes up the odds for the top players in the field.

Cameron Young Tour Championship History

In his first year on the PGA Tour, Young is looking to make his own history. One of ten first-timers at Eastlake, a win this week would be his first on tour, and he would join Xander Schauffele as the only other rookie to win the Tour Championship.

Cameron Young’s Recent Form

As one would expect, the Wake Forest product has had an up-and-down first season on tour. Even though he has yet to hoist a trophy over his head, Young had five runner-up finishes in 2022 and seven top-10s in 24 starts. Two of those second-place finishes have come in his last four events, including a near miss at the 150th Open Championship last month.

Cameron Young Tour Championship Prediction

For those unfamiliar with the Tour Championship format, players will start with staggered scoring based on their FedEx Cup standing coming into the week. Young will start seven back of world number one Scottie Scheffler at -3. East Lake is a par 70 course that stretches nearly 7,350 yards. Young’s length and all-around game should serve him well here. The favorite to win PGA Tour’s Rookie of the Year honors is second in SG OTT, fourth in overall putting average, and sixth in birdie average on tour this year. While it’s hard to see this young talent making up that much ground on the leaders, if Young can stay locked in all four days, he could be in the mix to make history on Sunday. He’s someone I would consider backing for a top-5 finish.
