2022 Tour Championship: Sungjae Im Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

The PGA Tour’s 2021-2022 season comes to an end with this week’s Tour Championship. The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for a $65 million purse that includes a first-place prize of $18 million. No pressure, huh?

Defending champ Patrick Cantlay will be part of the field at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The tournament uses a Starting Strokes scoring system, effectively giving players a head start based on their position in the FedEx Cup point standings. As last season’s point leader, Cantlay began the Tour Championship at -10 and eventually finished at -21 on the par-70 host course.

This year, Scottie Scheffler enters the Tour Championship as the leader in the FedEx Cup point standings, followed by Cantlay (who won last week’s BMW Championship) and Will Zalatoris.

Read on to see how the BettingPros staff sizes up the odds for the top players in the field.

Sungjae Im Tour Championship History

This will be Im’s fourth appearance at the final event of the PGA Tour’s calendar year. His best finish at East Lake Golf Club came two years ago when he finished 11th thanks to a second-round 64 (-6) that was good enough for the 36-hole lead. The weekend has been an issue for Im, though, as he has carded just one round under par in six attempts.

Sungjae Im Recent Form

Im turned in a pair of T2 performances at the 3M Open and the Wyndham Championship heading into the PGA Tour playoffs. He subsequently posted two top-20 performances in the first two weeks of the playoff to punch his card to East Lake starting Thursday.

Sungjae Im Tour Championship Prediction

For those unfamiliar with the Tour Championship format, players will start with staggered scoring based on their FedEx Cup standing coming into the week. Im will start six back of top-ranked Scottie Scheffler at -4. The South Korean’s key to success this week will be his play around the greens. While he is top-10 in SG OTT (Off the Tee) and GIR (Greens in Regulation), Im is fourth in Scrambling, which means when he misses the green on approach, only three golfers on tour have been better this season at making par or better. I can’t see Im chasing down the leaders, but he could be worth backing for a top-10 finish.
