With the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in the rearview mirror, it’s time for the 2026 Belmont Stakes. The final jewel of the triple crown, the Test of the Champion, is typically the longest of the three races at a full 1.5 miles. However, the 2026 Belmont Stakes will run at the historic Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., rather than at Belmont Park, for the third year in a row, as renovations continue at the race's usual home. That means the distance is being reduced from 1.5 miles to 1.25 miles due to the difference in the tracks’ circumferences. Emerging Market hasn’t raced since a very disappointing 10th-place finish at the Kentucky Derby. Emerging Market entered that race undefeated, with a win at the Louisiana Derby over Golden Tempo under his belt. This is a horse that went off at 8/1 at the Kentucky Derby, but it seems that bettors have soured on him after his rough placement. To me, this is a horse being very undervalued at 6/1. This is the only race of the Triple Crown that jockey Flavien Prat hasn’t won. But after the disaster that was the Kentucky Derby, I expect a great jockey/trainer combo like Prat and Chad Brown to make the adjustments necessary to turn this horse into the contender he proved himself to be entering the first weekend of May.
