Despite completing less than fifty percent of his passes for 212 yards and one touchdown in two preseason games, Gardner Minshew was named the Week 1 starter for the Raiders by head coach Antonio Pierce this week. Pierce has said he is leaning towards resting all of his projected starters on both sides of the ball for the final tune-up of the year. That means second-year backup Aidan O’Connell will see most of the snaps for Las Vegas against the visiting 49ers. On the other hand, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan intends to roll his starters out in somewhat of a “dress rehearsal” for their Week 1 matchup against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. That means Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffery, and company will get reps against the Raider’s second and third-string defenders. The line has already moved a full point in San Francisco’s direction, and for good reason.
