Early Week 8 NFL Best Bets & Trends
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Las Vegas Raiders vs. New York Jets
The sink is shipping for both of these teams. But unless this game ends in a tie, someone has to win.
The Raiders are under .500 after getting blown out by the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, the Jets just lost at home to the Dolphins.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn says they’re getting better. Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said everything is on the table when it comes to changes. Yes, maybe Fernando Mendoza gets his shot soon.
Ultimately, Las Vegas has one of the NFL’s worst secondaries. Geno Smith will have all his weapons healthy for this game, including Breece Hall, who has already been out for a month.
The Raiders have struggled to protect in the pass game, and their run blocking isn’t much better. If the Jets can get early stops against the run, the defense should be able to get off the field.
As an underdog at home, I’ll back the Jets. They’re the more talented team, all things considered.
Pick: Jets Moneyline (-105)
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos
This isn’t a fluke. The Kansas City Chiefs are weak on offense when Kenneth Walker III doesn’t get going right away. Teams will prepare for that now, including divisional rival Denver.
An aging Travis Kelce literally leads the Chiefs in receiving yards this season. That’s not ideal.
That said, the Broncos have struggled to tackle well this season, and the run defense is far from above average. If Walker gets going in the run game, the Chiefs will find a way to score in this contest.
Denver lacks an elite run game. They have many capable players, but none have stepped up to earn the lead role, to be honest.
Plus, Bo Nix has only 1,271 passing yards this season. That’s 200 fewer than Mahomes, who doesn’t even have many targets.
Sunday Night Football was a disaster, but the Chiefs can turn things around on Sunday and earn a road win.
Pick: Chiefs Moneyline (-125)
