San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Super Bowl LVIII)

Sometimes, when prognosticating NFL games of this magnitude, who wins often comes down to who has the best quarterback and head coach. In this matchup, the answer is far and away Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes has more regular season wins, playoff wins, AFC titles and passing touchdowns, plus fewer interceptions and a better quarterback rating than Tom Brady did in his first six seasons, according to Adam Schefter. In addition, Andy Reid is coaching in his fifth Super Bowl, and his teams have a great track record off a bye week, going 28-5 SU, including the postseason.

Oddsmakers essentially have this as a coin-flip game, as no sportsbook has a point spread greater than San Francisco -1.5. Thus, since we expect the Chiefs to win, we are getting great value on Mahomes' Super Bowl MVP odds since he was MVP of their first two Super Bowl victories, and quarterbacks have taken home the MVP award in 10 of the previous 14 Super Bowls.

After the 17-10 win over Baltimore in the AFC Championship, Mahomes is now 10-1-1 ATS and 9-3 SU as an underdog in his career. NFL senior researcher Tony Holzman-Escareno highlighted that this is the fourth Super Bowl rematch of head coaches all time, and those that won the first matchup also won the second.

One thing we can count on is Mahomes playing a clean game and not putting his team in bad positions. His 203 consecutive pass attempts without an interception are the third-most in postseason history (34 behind Tom Brady's all-time record). In addition, he has an 11-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio in his last six playoff games. Even though his 6.2 yards per attempt against the Ravens were the second-lowest in his playoff career, he still finished with a 91.1 QBR and threw for 241 yards.

Orlando Magic @ Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves we expected to see last year are the ones we're finally getting. The addition of Rudy Gobert has finally elevated this defense, as they are the best team in Adjusted Defense Rankings. The offense sits near the middle, but they are getting fantastic contributions from Karl-Anthony Towns, averaging 22.5 points, and Anthony Edwards, averaging 25.5 points per game.

The Magic are another team whose success is from their defense, as they're fourth in Adjusted Defensive Ranking. Unfortunately, the offense has not been doing its part. They've hit a rough patch by dropping 11 of their last 14 and have scored below 110 in nine of those. They might need some offensive upgrades, with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner being the only two players averaging over 15 points per game.

One of those 11 losses came against the Timberwolves, who blew the Magic out by 21 in Orlando. It's a tough spot on the road, with Minnesota being 18-4 at home.

Pick: Timberwolves -7.5 (-108)

Princeton @ Yale

Last year, Princeton became the second Ivy League school to make the Sweet 16 in the past 43 NCAA tournaments. It was also the school's first Sweet 16 since 1967, when just 23 teams were invited to the "Big Dance." Yet for all of that notoriety and success, Yale was picked as the favorite in the Ivy League preseason poll, as the Bulldogs returned 67.2% of their minutes from last season (top 20 in the country).

Princeton may have been seen as the second-best team after losing do-it-all forward Tosan Evbuomwan, who ranked in the top six of the conference in assist rate, free throw rate, possession percentage and minutes percentage. The Tigers have managed just fine in his absence, though, ranking in the top 10 nationally in 2-point shooting and turnover percentage. However, Cornell exposed Princeton's lack of frontcourt depth last weekend, shooting 73.5% (25-of-34) inside the arc and winning by 15 points.

Yale proved to be a bad matchup for Princeton last year, winning both regular season matchups, including the one at home by 22 points. This year, the Bulldogs rank first in Ivy League play in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency and in both 2-point and 3-point percentages allowed. That success has come despite playing one top-four Ivy League team and three of their first four league games on the road. The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in league games this year and are 6-1-1 ATS on long rest (four-plus days off). We expect them to win (while covering) for the sixth time in the last seven home matchups against Princeton.

Bet: Yale -3.5 (-108)
