Coming into 2024, Chris Sale had a rough few years. Injuries kept him off the field, and from 2020-2023, he made just 32 starts.
In his first year with the Braves, he looks vintage; he's leading the league in wins, ERA and FIP, and he is the National League Cy Young favorite.
He will face the Giants for the second time this season. In the previous start, he went six innings, allowing one run and striking out nine. He's been profitable at hitting his strikeout prop and should do it again today.
Elly De La Cruz Over 1.5 Total Bases
This was supposed to be the year Cincinnati took the next step toward becoming a contender. They have young talent and finished last season strong, but they haven’t played well consistently this season and have fallen in the standings.
Some of that young talent, including Elly De La Cruz, is still performing well. He's coming into his own in his sophomore season, which consists of a league-leading 59 stolen bases.
Jackson Merrill Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI
Jackson Merrill has been hot at the plate, batting .314 with a .881 OPS.
The Padres are one of the hottest teams in the second half of the season and have surged back into contention in the National League West. Their eight-game winning streak was snapped on Sunday, but since July 20th, they are 15-3 and have gone from eight games back in the division to 3.5.
Merrill has contributed to this recent winning streak, batting .478 with nine runs and nine RBI in his last six games. Even better news is that he's facing a pitcher he has some success against; he's 3-for-3 against Pirates starter Marco Gonzales.
