Not to sound like a broken record, but keep targeting the Hawks' defense until they prove they can stop anyone from beyond the arc. They're allowing 16.6 three-pointers per game, 1.6 more than the next most in the league, and they're still allowing opponents to knock down 39.4% of their shots from beyond the arc.
With all of this in mind, it's shocking to see Donovan Mitchell's number set slightly lower than his season average. I expect this number to climb to four or 4.5 before long, as Mitchell is averaging 3.7 made threes per game, and he has knocked down at least four in his last two games. I'd take the more than 3.5 three-pointers in most matchups, but this is a no-brainer against the worst three-point defense in basketball.
This is another head-scratcher. Jayson Tatum is averaging 5.8 assists per game, the most on the Celtics by 1.4 per contest. On Friday, he takes on the Bulls, who are allowing the most assists per game in the league. It's no surprise the team allowing the most assists in the league is also allowing the most points per contest.
The Celtics are averaging 120.2 points per game, third-most in the league. Considering their offense is firing on all cylinders and they're going against a bad defense, why wouldn't Tatum hit his assists average? It seems this number is much lower than it should be because he only has four assists in each of his last two games. If those recent performances are skewing this total that much then that's great news for us. Bet the overreaction.
Tyler Herro is averaging 4.1 made three-pointers per game this season. He just knocked down four against the Hornets in his last game. While Herro has been great from beyond the arc this season, he has made fewer than four three-pointers in three of his last four games. His season averages are also seriously inflated after he knocked down 10 three-pointers against the Detroit Pistons earlier this season.
While Herro can knock down threes against anyone in the league, this is a tough matchup for him. The Raptors rank seventh in the league, allowing just 12.6 three-pointers per game. They also rank seventh in opponent three-point percentage, allowing the opposition to knock down just 34% of their attempts from deep. Since Herro has gone cold in recent games, I'll back the less than in one of the worst matchups in the league.
