When these two teams met earlier this season, Xavier Worthy ended with a season-high 73 yards on just three catches. However, that performance was aided by a massive 54-yard grab, as he managed just 19 yards aside from that one play. Worthy is always a big-play threat, but for him to hit this more than he'll need at least one huge play tonight.
The Chargers are allowing the 10th-fewest passing yards per game this season, despite two of their last three opponents being the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals. They're allowing 9.8 yards per reception, the eighth-best in the NFL. Worthy has gone over 40 yards in three consecutive games, but he has failed to top this number seven times this season. With DeAndre Hopkins and Travis Kelce taking a large share of the targets, there won't be enough left for Worthy in a tough matchup.
Patrick Mahomes has thrown 19 touchdowns this season, but he's thrown fewer than two in six games. One of those disappointing performances came in Week 4 against the Chargers when he threw just one touchdown pass.
The Chargers are allowing just 1.2 passing touchdowns per game this season, which is tied for ninth-best in the NFL. Though they're allowing 1.7 touchdown passes over their last three games, Kirk Cousins didn't throw a single one against them last week. While Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson proved you can throw for touchdowns against this team if your offense is that good, the Chiefs don't rely on their passing game nearly as much as those other two teams.
With J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve (IR), Gus Edwards is the clear No. 1 running back in Los Angeles. Last week he only managed 32 yards, but he also only carried the ball just six times. That performance may have some bettors worried, but the issue wasn't Edwards, it was the Chargers' overall offense. They only ran 41 offensive plays. When they faced the Chiefs earlier this season, they ran 51.
The Chiefs are allowing just 87.8 rushing yards per game, the third-fewest in the league. And while Edwards is only averaging 3.4 yards per carry, this number is simply too low. Edwards has topped 50 yards in two of the three games where he ran the ball at least 10 times. Expect a healthy dose of him tonight, as the Chargers don't have other options.
