Starting Pitchers: Bryan Woo vs. Ryan Weathers
Bryan Woo has struggled mightily on the road this season, to put it mildly. According to FanGraphs, in 12 road tilts spanning 63 innings, Woo has been tagged for a 6.71 ERA, 4.20 xFIP, 1.49 WHIP and 1.29 HR/9.
The 26-year-old righty has allowed a .353 wOBA to 153 left-handed batters on the road and a .351 wOBA to 128 right-handed batters on the road this season as well.
Woo has a challenging matchup against the top of New York’s order. Trent Grisham, Ben Rice, Heliot Ramos, Luis Garcia Jr. and Jazz Chisholm Jr. are their projected top-five hitters. They have recorded a 95 wRC+, 161 wRC+, 92 wRC+, 146 wRC+ and 102 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers this year, respectively. Grisham helps make up for his underwhelming 95 wRC+ against righties with a blistering 147 wRC+ in 178 plate appearances against all pitching at home this season.
Woo’s 18-4 NRFI-YRFI would suggest he should throw a scoreless first inning, even against this potent lineup. However, he has a 9-3 NRFI-YRFI on the road, including allowing runs in the first inning of back-to-back road tilts.
Ryan Weathers also has a challenging first inning ahead of him. Taylor Ward, Cole Young, Randy Arozarena, Dominic Canzone and Julio Rodriguez project to slot first through fifth in the order, and they’ve rattled off a 133 wRC+, 94 wRC+, 115 wRC+, 179 wRC+ and 132 wRC+ against southpaws in 2026, respectively. The group also has some pop, which could pose a problem for Weathers.
The lefty has a 4.11 ERA, 3.22 xFIP, 1.29 WHIP and 1.41 HR/9 in 13 home starts. Weathers has a ho-hum 14-8 NRFI-YRFI record in 22 starts this season, and he’s gone 9-4 at home. The scoring in this game should begin with at least one team scratching a run across the first inning and cashing the YRFI.

Starting Pitchers: Kyle Harrison vs. Walker Buehler
Kyle Harrison versus Walker Buehler is a matchup between a blossoming ace and, charitably, not an ace. Harrison has the following numbers in 18 starts, totaling 88.2 innings, this season:

There aren’t many nits to pick in Harrison’s statistical profile, and it begins with getting off to a good start. He has a dazzling 1.29 ERA, 2.97 xFIP, 0.86 WHIP, 5.6% walk rate and 30.9% strikeout rate in his first time through the order this season.
Harrison also has a 14-4 NRFI-YRFI record this season. He’s gone 8-2 in his previous 10 starts.
Buehler doesn’t boast impressive overall pitching numbers. Instead, the 32-year-old righty has the following stats in 23 starts this year:

While his overall numbers largely stink, Buehler has been a beast in the first inning. He has a 19-4 NRFI-YRFI record, spinning five straight scoreless innings and going 8-2 in his last 10.
Finally, according to Baseball-Reference, Buehler has allowed nine runs, while tallying a 3.52 ERA and holding batters to a .693 OPS in the first inning in 2026. Both pitchers are so dominant in the first inning that the NRFI is the most appealing bet for the first inning of this contest.
