WNBA Best Bets for Wednesday, June 5
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Minnesota Lynx (-7.5) at Los Angeles Sparks | 159.5 O/U (-110/-110)
The Minnesota Lynx are one of the best teams in the WNBA this season. Their 6-2 record puts them just behind the Sun (8-0) and Liberty (7-2) in the league standings. When we dive deeper into the numbers, the Lynx are proving they should be considered legit title contenders.
On the offensive end, Minnesota's 86.4 points per game are second in the WNBA and barely behind Las Vegas (86.5). The Lynx also lead the league in field goal percentage (45.9%), three-point percentage (38.6%) and assists per game (24.0). In terms of some advanced metrics, they are third in offensive efficiency, first in effective field goal percentage, second in assist-to-turnover ratio and second in true shooting percentage.
Defensively, the Lynx boast the league's second-best defensive efficiency while holding opponents to 29.9% from three (second in the WNBA) and 41.4% from the field (tied for second). They are first in steals per game (11.0) and second in blocks (6.0).
Minnesota is truly elite on both ends of the floor. MVP candidate Napheesa Collier leads the way with her 21.4 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocks/steals per game. The Lynx also have three other double-digit scorers to make up one of the best starting units in the league. They are an impressive 7-1 against the spread (ATS) so far, including 2-0 as favorites. The Lynx have also won by 10+ points in five of their six victories, including the past two contests against Dallas and Phoenix.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Sparks are 2-5-1 ATS this year and just 1-4 ATS in the past five games. They've lost both of the past two games by double-digits and tonight could easily go the same way. This a younger, rebuilding team with two rookies playing big minutes (Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson). The Sparks have a talented scorer in Dearica Hamby but the supporting cast tends to be too inconsistent to compete with the top WNBA squads.
Bet: Minnesota Lynx -7.5 (-110)
Las Vegas Aces (-7.5) at Dallas Wings | 169.5 O/U (-110/-110)
The Las Vegas Aces have led the WNBA in points per game for four straight years heading into this season. Now three weeks in, the Aces lead the league again at 86.5 points per game (PPG). They also rank first in pace and second in offensive efficiency.
MVP favorite A'ja Wilson is dominating for Las Vegas, averaging 26.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Jackie Young (20.7 points per game, 7.7 assists per game) and Kelsey Plum (18.7 points per game, 5.7 assists per game) complete the Aces' "Big 3" of potent scorers and playmakers that have been lighting up the league together for the past three seasons. Las Vegas should put points in this matchup against an average (at best) defense.
The Dallas Wings allow 83.0 PPG this season (fourth-most in the WNBA). They're also giving up the most field goal attempts and field goals made per game this year. That plays right into the Aces' strength as a faster-paced team leading the league in shot attempts per contest. Wilson, specifically, has an advantage inside with Natasha Howard still sidelined for Dallas.
Meanwhile, the Wings can add to the total offensively as well. Arike Ogunbowale leads the league in scoring (26.6 PPG) as one of the most dynamic guards in the WNBA. Dallas also boasts three other double-digit scorers stepping up in Howard's absence. The Wings are averaging 82.6 PPG with a league-high offensive-rebounding rate. As good as Las Vegas is on offense, it’s giving up 80.7 PPG with a middle-of-the-pack defense.
The Aces and Wings are offensive-minded teams that should force a higher-scoring matchup. Both teams also try to outscore opponents with defense not being a strong suit. Grab the over in this game as we could see Las Vegas eclipse 90+ points in a presumed win.
Bet: Over 169.5 Total Points (-110)
