JJ Spaun arrives at Augusta fresh off a win at the Valero Texas Open. Fresh might not be the right word, since rain in San Antonio suspended play on Saturday and required players to put in overtime on Sunday.

Otherwise, Spaun’s 2026 has been disappointing. The reigning U.S. Open champ missed the cut in four of his first seven events and hadn’t posted a top-finish before the win at the Valero.

JJ Spaun has broken par in only one of his eight competitive rounds at Augusta, suggesting that he’s still trying to figure out the place. And it’s fair to wonder how much gas Spaun will have in the tank after a victory in San Antonio that required him to play 26 holes on Sunday.
