Week 5 of the 2026 college football season has some massive games on tap, starting with a top-20 SEC showdown between Alabama and Mississippi State. Quarterbacks Keelon Russell and Kamario Taylor will go head-to-head in Starkville, as Taylor looks to keep the Bulldogs undefeated and improve his Heisman Trophy bid.
Other marquee matchups feature Ohio State vs. Iowa, Florida vs. Missouri, Auburn vs. Tennessee, Kentucky vs. South Carolina, and Miami vs. Clemson. Four of these hosts are underdogs, with the majority of spreads set inside of -7.5.
My 3 Best College Football Bets for Week 4 (2026) went 2-1 for a profitable result. Iowa’s last-second win over Michigan cashed Iowa +5.5, Alabama routed South Carolina to cover -12.5, but USC’s inability to beat Oregon continued, failing to cover +3.0 at home.

College Football Week 5: Best Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Alabama (7) vs. Mississippi State (16)
While Kamario Taylor is headlining this matchup as Mississippi State’s quarterback, Alabama QB Keelon Russell deserves equal recognition. The Crimson Tide’s signal-caller is a true dual-threat, logging 5.3 YPC and 3 rushing touchdowns, while posting a 70 percent completion rate for 8 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Alabama’s going to have its hands full against a superstar quarterback like Taylor. He’s thrown for 1192 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just 2 interceptions, leading the Bulldogs on consecutive comebacks against South Carolina and Missouri.
Defensively, the edge goes to Alabama, who is holding opponents to 2.9 YPC and boasting a +5 turnover margin. However, Mississippi State holds home-field advantage in the program’s biggest game in a decade, while only committing 3 turnovers this season.
The line has steamed toward Alabama, with 70 percent of spread bets on the Crimson Tide at -6.0. After opening at -3.0, we’re now seeing -6.0, which creates value on Mississippi State as a near full touchdown underdog at home.
Taylor is the best quarterback on the field, and Alabama has had to rally against Kentucky and Florida State. +6.0 is enough points to take with a bet on Mississippi State.
Pick: Mississippi State +6.0 (-115)

Ohio State (5) vs. Iowa (14)
The undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes return to Iowa City to take on No. 5 Ohio State during Saturday’s late afternoon window. Oddsmakers are laying -14.5 with the Buckeyes, while the point total is set at 45.5.
Iowa has the nation’s top-ranked scoring defense, allowing a stingy 8.0 points per game. Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith is going to put their secondary to the test. However, the Hawkeyes have limited opposing passing attacks to a 51.9 percent completion rate and 4 interceptions, entering this game with a +4 turnover differential.
Ohio State might be able to move the football downfield like Michigan did last week, but scoring in the red zone will prove tricky, especially in a hostile environment. The Buckeyes have only allowed 2 passing touchdowns this season, so Iowa QB Hank Brown will have an uphill battle.
We’re through a key number of 45.5. Let’s bet Under 45.5 in a game with the top-leading scoring defense in the FBS.
Pick: Under 45.5 (-110)
Kentucky (24) vs. South Carolina
Kentucky has been one of the biggest surprises in the SEC, posting a 3-1 record and logging a key win on the road against Texas A&M a couple of weeks ago. The Wildcats are led by QB Kenny Minchey, who has thrown 8 touchdowns to only 1 interception, while a running back tandem of CJ Baxter and Jason Patterson have 95 combined carries for over 630 yards and 8 touchdowns.
South Carolina is a program in a bit of a downward spiral. Star edge rusher Dylan Stewart was just suspended by head coach Frank Beamer. QB LaNorris Sellers has been turnover-prone and does not have flashy numbers as a passer. He’ll face a Kentucky defense that’s held opponents to 3.6 YPC and a +3 turnover margin.
The line on Kentucky has moved from +7.0 to +3.0, while the point total has moved up from 49.5 to 54.5. We’re paying a premium on the Wildcats, especially on the road, but I don’t have confidence in the Gamecocks getting out of their losing skid, even back on home field.
Let’s take Kentucky +3.0 before it has a chance to dip through a key number of 3 ahead of Saturday’s 4:15 p.m. ET opening kickoff.
Pick: Kentucky +3.0 (-108)
