Golden State Valkyries at Atlanta Dream
Jordin Canada 7+ Assists (-152)
The Atlanta Dream will need Jordin Canada’s playmaking to have a chance at success. The juice on this selection (-152) is quite unappealing. That said, the Dream guard will do everything possible to get the team as many easy looks as possible. Canada has dished out at least seven assists in six out of seven playoff games.
Canada is averaging 8.7 assists through the playoffs - including four double-digit performances. She has posted seven or more assists in four consecutive contests, including two out of three home games. Canada has finished with at least seven assists in her last three games against the Valkyries. We hate the juice, but we’re largely in favor of Canada producing seven or more assists in Game 3.
Angel Reese 27+ Points + Rebounds (-119)
We weighed going with Angel Reese’s points + rebounds + assists combo prop. We also looked at the over on her finishing this contest with the most combined points + rebounds + assists. Yet, it all seemed a little unnecessary.
Focusing on the combined points + rebounds prop for the young forward seemed way more logical. Reese absolutely dominated in scoring and on the boards in Game 2. It's hard to see that changing in Atlanta tonight.
After failing to score in the second half of the first game of this series, Reese torched Golden State for 30 points and 16 rebounds on Sunday. Reese is averaging 19 points and 10 boards in the playoffs and has finished with 27+ combined points and rebounds in three of the last four games.
The Valkyries couldn’t contain Reese, who dominated in the last contest. She looks like the MVP of this series and is in a great position to hit 27+ combined points + rebounds.
First Quarter Under 37.5 Points (-118)
Nothing too complicated on this selection. We strongly believe scoring will be down again in this contest. Neither team has shown a strong desire to put points on the board in the first 10 minutes of the game. Atlanta is expected to get a few more attempts, given the benefit of their home crowd. However, Golden State and Atlanta gravely underperformed in the first 10 minutes of Games 1 & 2.
The Dream and Valkyries did eclipse 37.5 combined points in the previous contest. That was only the second quarter out of eight where the two teams reached 38+ points. They combined for 39 points in Game 2 - just one basket away from falling below once again. We are going to take our chances on what will be the sweatiest bet of all this evening.
This total is based largely on regular-season averages and doesn’t account for the horrific shooting through the first two games of this series.
Atlanta is shooting 33% on 63 attempts per game, while the Valkyries are shooting 33% on 69.5 attempts per game. The woeful shooting likely reflects the hounding defense from both teams, and that's unlikely to change tonight.
The first two games of this series resulted in no more than 144 points. We expect a similar total tonight, and while Atlanta will be more aggressive at home, Golden State has been so focused on defense that its offense is suffering. If Gabby Williams is held below 20 points, the 151.5-point threshold will not be met.
Atlanta Dream Moneyline (-142)
Despite the series being tied one game apiece, the Dream have been the better team. Each team’s shooting has been abysmal, to say the least, as noted earlier. That said, Atlanta appears to be the hungrier of the two teams. They forced 14 steals in Game 2 to secure a 14-point win.
What truly separates the Valkyries and Dream is Atlanta’s enormous free-throw advantage. The Dream have taken 56 free-throw attempts, while the Valkyries have taken 37. Given the poor shooting from Atlanta and Golden State, an extra 20 or so free throws could bury the other team. Atlanta played masterfully on the road on Sunday and should repeat that stellar play at home tonight.
Enjoy the game tonight, and good luck with your picks.
