NFL Player Props, Picks & Predictions: Browns vs. Steelers

Here are some of Andrew Erickson’s predictions for Browns vs. Steelers. And check out all of his top picks for NFL Week 8.

Browns vs. Steelers Preview & Picks

I am on the Browns +3.5, with the spot being the main angle: Pittsburgh is playing right after its game in Paris with no bye in between, and teams in that position have not been good against the spread. It is the same logic behind the Giants +10.5 that I teased in the BettingPros Week 7 primer and should have made my best bet, since Houston came off London and lost outright. Teams coming off London games with no bye are 0-4 ATS this season, and in 2024 the Jets played right after a London game under Aaron Rodgers without a bye and failed to cover (lost outright).

We have already seen the Browns beat this team earlier this season, on Thursday night, 27-24 as a 2.5-point home underdog. Pittsburgh needed a Boswell 31-yard field goal just before the half to get to 10-21 at the break, and the Steelers went just 4-13 on third downs. So it is clearly possible for Cleveland to win this outright. Both teams are 5-2 ATS and 5-2 straight up, and both have played almost exclusively close games and won most of them. The two quarterbacks also rank first and second in sacks taken (Watson 25, Rodgers 22). I expect this one to come down to a field goal, and that is why the half-point hook matters to me. I am not pretending there is nothing on the other side. The home team has won each of the last 10 Browns-Steelers games, the Steelers have won 22 straight regular-season home games against Cleveland, and the Browns are 0-9 ATS on the road against teams with a winning record, which is not ideal for a road underdog.

Four of the last five Steelers games have also gone Over, and the earlier meeting went Over, so I am not on the Under just because the total sits below 40.

DK Metcalf has only gone over 4.5 receptions in games where Aaron Rodgers attempted at least 40 passes this season (2/7 games this season, 27%).

The Steelers WR has needed at least 9 targets in both of those games (at Cleveland and at Tampa Bay) to catch just 5 passes. He has just a 55% catch rate this season, the 8th worst among all qualified wide receivers, and he is bottom-10 in separation among those same qualifiers. The Browns allow the 4th-fewest targets to No. 1 wide receivers this season, at six per game. So even though Metcalf did go over this number the last time he faced the Browns…he ran so hot toward the end of the game as a tale of two halves: just 22 of his 115 yards came before halftime, with 93 of them (and three of his five catches) arriving in Pittsburgh's fourth-quarter comeback push.

The Steelers moved him inside to get him away from CB1 Denzel Ward, where he was getting blanked in coverage (1 catch on 3 targets).

Also, the Sharps are backing Metcalf under 4.5 recs at -122 (based on $2.5K in prediction market liquidity). DraftKings offers -118 via the Smart Money Picks Tool on BettingPros.

    • Browns +3.5
    • DK Metcalf UNDER 4.5 receptions

Best NFL Same Game Parlay for Browns vs. Steelers

Here is our top NFL same game parlay for Browns vs. Steelers. And you can view all of our Week 8 NFL same game parlays.

            • Leg 1: Jaylen Warren 90+ Rushing + Receiving Yards (-148)
            • Leg 2: Quinshon Judkins Under 48.5 Rushing Yards (-109)
            • Leg 3: Harold Fannin Jr. Under 34.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

Jaylen Warren continues to produce weekly for Pittsburgh. The running back is averaging 94.4 rushing yards and 46.6 receiving yards per game over the last five weeks. Combined, that's 141 total yards per game in this stretch. He also has at least 126 total yards in four of the last five games.

At this point, it's rinse-and-repeat for Warren on his rushing+receiving yards prop. He should hit 90+ total yards this week with the workload and consistent production, even with Rico Dowdle back. The Browns allow 104.0 rushing yards per game to opposing RBs, the ninth-highest mark in the league. Dowdle could steal some touches, but Warren is still the guy in this backfield. His pass-catching is the cherry on top, too.

Conversely, don't expect a big game from Quinshon Judkins. The Browns' tailback just put up 96 yards against Tennessee last week. However, he was held to 44 and 53 yards in the two games prior. Judkins is also averaging just 52.8 rushing yards per game this year. The Steelers can hold him below that, as their defense is allowing the seventh-fewest rushing yards per game this season.

Let's also fade another Cleveland player. Pittsburgh has covered tight ends well this season. The defense is allowing the second-fewest targets and fourth-fewest receptions per game to opposing TEs. Plus, the Steelers' 41.9 receiving yards allowed per game to the position is the eighth-lowest in the NFL. Fannin exploded for 91 yards last week, but was held to just 11 combined yards in the two games prior. He's now finished under 30 yards in four of seven games, too.

What is an NFL player prop bet?

An NFL player prop bet is a type of wager where you’re betting on the performance of a specific player in a game rather than the overall outcome. For example, you might place a bet on how many passing yards a quarterback will throw for, or how many touchdowns a running back will score. It’s a fun way to get more invested in the action, especially if you’re confident in how a particular player will perform, regardless of who wins or loses the game. It’s like focusing on one slice of the pie instead of the whole thing.
