Below, we break down our top Pistons vs. Knicks picks and props, including the betting odds and best bets for Tuesday night.
Best NBA Picks & Predictions: Pistons vs. Knicks
Here are our top picks and predictions for tonight’s NBA game: Pistons vs. Knicks.
Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks Picks
The Knicks are 0-3, and the Pistons are 3-0, yet the Knicks are favored by 3.5 tonight. And while I expect the desperate Knicks to ultimately win this game, I don't think the Pistons are going to make it easy for them.
The biggest reason I'm backing the Pistons to cover is because of how well they shoot from beyond the three-point line. They're averaging the fourth-most three-pointers per game (15.7) and the third-best three-point rate (42%).
Meanwhile, the Knicks' three-point defense has really struggled to start the season. They're allowing 14.7 three-pointers per game, and 36.4% of their attempts are going in. Those stats rank fifth-worst and ninth-worst, respectively. With both defenses in the top 10 in points allowed per game, the Pistons' three-point shooting will be enough to keep this low-scoring game close.
Pick: Pistons +4.5 (-115)
Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks Same Game Parlay
- Leg 1: Pistons +4.5 (-115)
- Leg 2: Under 218.5 Points (-115)
- Leg 3: Cade Cunningham Over 38.5 Points + Rebounds +Assists (-122)
The Pistons (3-0) and the Knicks (0-3) meet at Madison Square Garden at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC. The defending champs have had a bit of a hangover, losing their first three games by an average of 6.3 points per game (PPG), including an 111-102 loss at Madison Square Garden to the Orlando Magic last Sunday.
New York is also 0-3 against the spread (ATS) in three games, and the under is 3-0. The Knicks have been a bit sluggish on offense, averaging 101.7 PPG while allowing 108.0 PPG.
Detroit topped Boston 121-113 in their season opener as a 1.5-point underdog, and then won back-to-back road games by an average of 15 points. That includes a 106-93 win in Philadelphia, the same team that spoiled the Knicks’ banner night.
The under cashed last time out against the 76ers on the road, but the over is 2-1 in three games to date for the Pistons.
Let’s back the unbeaten Pistons catching the points, and we’ll go with the under, based on New York’s 3-0 run in that department.
For player props, Cade Cunningham is a fun play on the combo. He has averaged 21.3 points, eight assists and 4.7 rebounds per game. Even though we’re playing the under, let’s go high on his combo prop.
Parlay Odds: +465
Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks First Basket Scorer Picks
Somehow, neither team has won an opening tip-off yet. But I'm picking the Knicks to win. They’re 0-3 after winning the NBA Finals last season, and with this game at home and televised on NBC, I expect them to start with high energy.
Jalen Brunson is the obvious favorite at +492. He's already scored first once this season. He's also a guard who will likely get the ball early. Brunson is averaging 21.3 field-goal attempts per game, so he’s taking more shots than anyone else in this matchup.
But Karl-Anthony Towns is scoring nearly as much as Brunson. Brunson averages 22.7 points per game, while Towns averages 21. Towns provides more value.
Pick: Karl-Anthony Towns (+600)
Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks Player Props Picks
Duncan Robinson has never shied away from letting it fly. The Michigan product is a career 40% three-point shooter and has averaged at least 2.6 made threes per game in each of his last three campaigns. It’s been business as usual this season, with Robinson draining five three-pointers in all three Pistons contests so far. Overall, he has shot an impressive 15-for-28 from beyond the arc.
Facing New York gives Robinson an opportunity to stay hot. The Knicks have surrendered the fifth-most made three-pointers through three games (14.7 per game). Sharpshooters like Philadelphia’s Anfernee Simons (3-of-8) and Orlando’s Desmond Bane (4-of-9) have already gotten the best of them. Robinson has sunk more than two three-pointers in three of his previous four clashes against New York. Bank on that trend continuing.
Duncan Robinson Over 2.5 Made Three-Pointers (-156)

What are Player Props?
Player props refer to wagers that bettors can make based on player performance in a specific game. The majority of player props are built around the most common statistical benchmarks for a specific sport, such as yards and touchdowns in football. Most player props are straight over/under plays that open at or near -110 and are adjusted based on where the money lands. Examples of basketball player prop bets include over/under bets on points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, blocks, or steals.
