Thursday’s Best MLB Picks & Predictions

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

New York Mets (+113) at Philadelphia Phillies (-137) | O/U 8.5 (-114/-107)

The Phillies have pretty much sealed the National League East as they hold a 10-game lead with 16 games remaining. They've been playing well down the stretch as they come in winning 10 of their last 13 games. For a team that has come very close to winning a World Series, going into the playoffs performing well can help their momentum.

A championship-caliber team needs to be strong on offense and pitching, and the Phillies have seen both contribute. During this recent 13-game run, they are second in ERA (2.95) and wOBA (.372). Jesus Luzardo has been inconsistent throughout the season. After earning a sub-3.00 ERA through the first few weeks of the season, it spiked to over 4.00, and it's stayed there since early June. In his last start against the Mets, he could only go four innings before allowing four earned runs in a Phillies loss.

That loss was the only one to the Mets this season, as the Phillies have won five out of six against them in 2025. The Mets are plummeting, having dropped five straight, and their Wild Card lead has shrunk to just two games. David Peterson has struggled recently with a 7.42 ERA. The Phillies should keep their hot streak going.

Pick: Phillies Moneyline (-137)

Detroit Tigers (+123) at New York Yankees (-150) | O/U 8.5 (-106/-115)

It has been a horrible two days for the Yankees. The Tigers have demolished the Yankees, outscoring them 23-3. The offense has been floundering, especially when it counts. They are just hitting .129 with runners in scoring position during this series. The starters have been great, but their biggest problem continues to be the bullpen, which has allowed 18 runs in six innings.

Cam Schlittler will try to continue his run of strong pitching performances. The 3.24 ERA looks great, but the split tells a different story. He's been great on the road this year with a 1.99 ERA, but at Yankee Stadium, it balloons up to 4.28.

It's tough not to look at how well the Tigers are playing and how bad the Yankees’ bullpen has been.

Pick: Tigers Moneyline (+123)
