Tuesday’s Best MLB Picks & Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
New York Yankees (-119) at Houston Astros (-102) | O/U 8.0 (-105/-116)
It's always exciting when the Yankees and Astros get together. They've each been title contenders for the last decade and have met in numerous important series during that span.
Max Fried hit a wall after being a Cy Young contender for the first half of the season. He had an eight-start run where the Yankees were 3-5 and he posted a 6.80 ERA. His last two starts have looked better, allowing just one total run.
Framber Valdez is another pitcher who has had a fantastic run but has been halted by some rough starts. At one point, the Astros had won 13 straight starts made by Valdez, who had a 1.86 ERA; now they have lost five of their last six, and he has a 4.95 ERA.
With these pitchers not playing at their best, we could see these lineups on display to start this series.
Pick: Over 8.0 Runs (-105)
Toronto Blue Jays (-108) at Cincinnati Reds (-112) | O/U 8.5 (-107/-113)
The Blue Jays are on a bit of a skid and are coming off a losing streak, having dropped four of their last six. However, they continue to lead the American League East. They are just one day away (September 3rd) from being in first place for two months. Their offense has made a huge difference, and it's been the best in that span, leading the league in wOBA (.354).
It's been good enough to support a pitching staff that’s been average with a 4.25 ERA (16th) in that span. Jose Berrios will occasionally have some bad starts, but he has been solid overall. Over his last six starts, he's allowed two or fewer runs in four.
This could be one of those efficient starts for him against a Reds team that has been inconsistent throughout the year. They are 24th in wOBA (.305) since August 19th. The Blue Jays dropped the first game of this series, but this is a good spot for them to rebound and grab a win.
Pick: Blue Jays Moneyline (-108)
