Major League Baseball has a total of 10 games on the schedule Monday night, and it’s a West Coast-heavy slate There are just four games with a first pitch of 7:45 p.m. ET or earlier, with six games with a first pitch of 9:38 p.m. ET or later. The Philadelphia Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals also meet at Busch Stadium at 7:45 p.m. ET, and the game can be viewed or streamed on FOX Sports 1 (FS1). Trevor Rogers Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-141)
Rogers makes the start for the Orioles in this series opener against former teammate RHP Dean Kremer, who was traded to the Twins prior to the MLB non-waiver trade deadline. The Twins haven’t had a ton of success this season against left-handed starting pitchers, going just 17-22 vs. LHP.
Rogers handed the Twins one of those losses against lefties back in late March in Baltimore, as he allowed just three hits and four walks in seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts in a 2-1 victory at Camden Yards. He has lasted at least six innings in five consecutive starts, and eight of his past nine outings.
MacKenzie Gore To Record 7+ Strikeouts (+100)
In a battle of southpaws, Rangers LHP MacKenzie Gore will face Angels LHP Reid Detmers in the first of a four-game series between these AL West combatants.
Gore has struggled lately, going 1-3 with a 5.73 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across his past seven starts, although while he has allowed 37 hits in the past 37.2 IP, he still has just nine walks with 43 strikeouts. He recently faced the Angels in Arlington, and he was touched up for seven runs and nine hits, including two homers, in just five innings in a loss. But, he also struck out seven batters, and he has at least seven or more punchouts in four of his past seven assignments.
The Angels lead the American League with 1,122 strikeouts across 118 games, or 9.51 strikeouts per game. L.A. might fare well against Gore, in terms of runs and hits, but it will also strike out plenty.
Andruw Monasterio 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (-101)
Monasterio saw his 10-game hitting streak come to a close in Sunday’s game at Fenway Park against the Athletics, going hitless in four at-bats with a strikeout. That’s actually a good thing, as the pressure to keep up the hitting streak is gone. During the impressive 10-game run, Monasterio lifted his average from .249 to .273 just since July 28, going 15-for-39 (.385) with a homer and 13 RBIs.
Now, Monasterio will look to start up a new streak against new Toronto Blue Jays acquisition RHP Jameson Taillon. The two do not have a lengthy history, but Monasterio is 2-for-6 with a double (.333) in their brief dealings. Look for Monasterio to start up a new streak against the journeyman.
Freddy Peralta To Record 5+ Strikeouts (-137)
We’re going back to the pitcher props for this series opener, as the Rays see their newest starting pitcher make his second start since being acquired from the New York Mets.
Peralta was lit up for seven earned runs, nine hits; and two homers in just 3.2 IP in a no-decision in Colorado in his team debut last Tuesday. That’s a tough place to make your team debut, as even at 30 years old, it’s possible to have some nerves when joining a new team. He should be a little more comfortable against the A’s, a team he dominated April 12 as a member of the Mets at CitiField.
In that mid-April start, Peralta allowed just one run on a solo homer with four total hits and three walks in six innings in a 1-0 loss against the A’s. The Athletics have struck out 1,028 times across 118 games, seventh-most in the Majors. Look for Peralta to get to five punchies, at a minimum.
