After Thursday’s 2-1 result, the MLB Sleeper series continues to hit at an impressive (if I do say so myself) 65.6% rate. Let’s keep the momentum rolling as we head into the weekend for this Friday, June 21. Here are three of my favorite player predictions for today.

MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 113-59
Gumby, as some call Jordan Montgomery, has been atrocious this season. He ranks in the bottom 11th percentile in K%, 16th in xERA, 22nd in xFIP and 43rd in CSW% among all starters. Now he faces a red-hot Phillies team that is fifth in wRC+ (126) and 17th in K% (20.7%) facing Southpaws over the past 30 days. Fourteen of the last 22 left-handed starters to go up against them have stayed under this. Montgomery has failed to eclipse this mark in nine of his 11 starts this season.
Grayson Rodriguez is an amazing pitcher with a bright future ahead of him, but the future doesn’t look so bright for him pitching in Houston tonight. The Astros have long been one of the most strikeout-averse teams, and this season is no different. They are 28th in K% (18.8%) and sixth in wRC+ (110) against right-handed pitching. While Rodriguez has gone over this mark in nine of his 12 starts, the vast majority of those were to his advantage. The times he did face a below-average squad in terms of strikeouts, he stayed under this line. He had just three strikeouts against the Yankees and four against Toronto.
I understand this isn’t the most ideal price and that Jose Quintana isn’t some strikeout machine, but it is a line he has routinely crossed. The Mets veteran lefty has exceeded this line in nine of his 11 starts. Additionally, he has some incredible strikeout numbers against his opponent on hand today. The Cubs roster owns a 31.1% K% across 61 combined plate appearances against him. Four isn’t too crazy of a number to ask for, Quintana.
