NFL Sunday Night Football Anytime & First TD Scorers: Eagles vs. Commanders

Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook

Philadelphia Eagles First TD Scorer: Dallas Goedert (+500)

Unfortunately, the Eagles will be without DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle) on Sunday night for the second consecutive game because of injuries. Therefore, Goedert is the veteran in an extremely young Philadelphia receiving unit. Thankfully, the former South Dakota State star has played well this season, especially in friendly matchups. He scored two receiving touchdowns in the Week 1 matchup against the Commanders, including the first Eagles touchdown of the year.

Bettors should expect a similar result from Goedert on Sunday night as Washington has struggled to slow down opposing passing attacks. The Commanders have surrendered eight receiving touchdowns to tight ends, the second-most in the NFL. They've given up at least one receiving touchdown to opposing tight ends in all but one game this year. Furthermore, the first touchdown scored against Washington has been by a tight end in half of their games, including back-to-back outings.

Washington Commanders First TD Scorer: Stefon Diggs (+500)

The Commanders head into their first game on Sunday night since losing Terry McLaurin to a season-ending knee injury in Week 6. Thankfully, Diggs is capable of filling the No. 1 wide receiver role with McLaurin sidelined. The former Maryland Star has four receiving touchdowns this year, the most on the team despite missing time with an injury. All four of the veteran's receiving touchdowns have come with Jayden Daniels under center.

More importantly, Diggs has scored the first Washington touchdown in 40% of the games he has played, including the team's last outing in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers. Meanwhile, the Eagles have surrendered 10 touchdowns to opposing wide receivers, the second-most in the NFL this season. Furthermore, the first touchdown scored against the Eagles has been by a wide receiver in 57.1% of their games, including last week and four of their past five contests.

Anytime TD Scorer: Saquon Barkley (+125)

Thankfully, Barkley will play on Sunday night after dealing with back and hamstring injuries over the past few weeks. The former Penn State star is coming off his best game this year despite leaving early with the back injury. He had seven rushing attempts for 62 yards on only 10 snaps against the Dallas Cowboys. More importantly, the veteran finally found the end zone, scoring his first rushing touchdown since Week 16 of last season.

While Barkley didn't find the end zone in the Week 1 matchup against the Commanders, the star running back had a solid performance, averaging 5.5 yards per rushing attempt. Meanwhile, Washington had an elite run defense to start the year. Unfortunately, they have regressed lately, surrendering two rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs twice in their past three games. Furthermore, Daron Payne suffered a season-ending foot injury on Friday, severely weakening the Commanders’ run defense.

Anytime TD Scorer: Jayden Daniels (+220)

Daniels is Washington's best option in the run game, especially with Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin) on injured reserve. The superstar quarterback has averaged 8.5 yards per rushing attempt and 53.3 yards per game this season. Furthermore, he has been a running machine since returning from an elbow injury, totaling 13 rushing attempts for 113 yards and two touchdowns in two games. Despite missing 2.5 games with the elbow injury, Daniels leads the Commanders in rushing touchdowns (two).

Furthermore, Daniels is third among quarterbacks in rushing touchdowns this season. Meanwhile, the Eagles have surrendered six rushing touchdowns over the past four weeks, allowing at least one in all but one game and three to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. More importantly, Philadelphia has struggled to keep quarterbacks out of the end zone. They have given up three rushing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks, the most in the NFL, including two to Cam Ward.
