Week 10 NFL Sunday Night Football Touchdown Scorers Picks
Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook
Pittsburgh Steelers First TD Scorer: Jaylen Warren (+310)
Last week, Warren averaged only 1.9 yards per rushing attempt against the Indianapolis Colts. However, the former undrafted free agent had two rushing touchdowns in the upset win over the Colts, his first two scores on the ground this season. More importantly, the former Oklahoma State star had the Steelers' first touchdown of the game. While the veteran hasn't had much luck falling into the end zone, that should continue to change Sunday night against the Chargers.
Los Angeles has surrendered eight rushing touchdowns to running backs, the fifth-most in the NFL. They haven't faced an average rushing attack the past few weeks. However, the Chargers surrendered seven rushing touchdowns to running backs between Week 5 and Week 7, allowing at least two in every outing. More importantly, the first touchdown against Los Angeles has been a rushing one in five of the seven games where an offensive touchdown was scored, including five consecutive contests.
Los Angeles Chargers First TD Scorer: Quentin Johnston (+550)
Many had low expectations for Johnston this year despite his solid finish to last season. Yet, the former TCU star has been outstanding, leading the Chargers with six receiving and offensive touchdowns in eight games. More importantly, he has had the first Los Angeles touchdown in a third of the games this season. Furthermore, Johnston had the team's second touchdown in last week's game against the Tennessee Titans after fullback Scott Matlock had the first.
Meanwhile, the Steelers have surrendered seven receiving touchdowns to wide receivers this year. However, Pittsburgh has struggled to keep opposing wide receivers out of the end zone lately. They've allowed four receiving touchdowns to wide receivers over the past three weeks, surrendering at least one in every contest. Furthermore, the Steelers have given up five receiving touchdowns to pass catchers lined up outside, including one last week. Meanwhile, five of Johnston's six touchdowns have come with him lined up outside.
Anytime TD Scorer: DK Metcalf (+160)
While he has had more than 55 receiving yards in only three games this season, Metcalf has been a scoring machine. The former Ole Miss star has a team-high five receiving touchdowns, accounting for 29.4% of the Steelers' total and 55.6% of the wide receiver total. Furthermore, the veteran wide receiver has found the end zone in five of the past seven games. More importantly, Metcalf has an underrated matchup on Sunday night against Los Angeles.
The Chargers have surrendered only four receiving touchdowns to wide receivers this year, the second-fewest in the NFL entering Week 10. However, half of those receiving touchdowns have come over the past three weeks despite facing multiple subpar passing attacks. More importantly, Los Angeles has struggled to keep opposing No. 1 wide receivers out of the end zone. Three of the four receiving touchdowns the team has allowed this season have gone to opposing No. 1 wide receivers.
Anytime TD Scorer: Oronde Gadsden II (+165)
Gadsden has been an outstanding addition to the Chargers' passing attack. The rookie has been one of the better tight ends over the past month, averaging six receptions on 6.8 targets for 94.3 receiving yards per game despite playing alongside an excellent trio of wide receivers. Furthermore, he has two receiving touchdowns during that span, finding the end zone in two of the past three weeks. More importantly, the former Syracuse star has an outstanding matchup Sunday night.
Unfortunately, Pittsburgh's defense has struggled this season after years of being an elite unit. They've surrendered six receiving touchdowns to tight ends, the second-most in the NFL, ranking only behind the Cincinnati Bengals (12). Furthermore, the Steelers have given up half of those six receiving touchdowns to tight ends over the past three weeks, including two to Tucker Kraft in Week 8. More aggressive bettors should bet on Gadsden to score twice in this game (+1200).
