Sunday’s Best NBA Summer League Picks: Spurs vs. Warriors

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

The California Classic is a small four-team tournament featuring the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Golden State Warriors. All teams have already played one game: Miami defeated San Antonio 82-69, and Golden State defeated LA 89-84.

It is important to keep in mind that the teams taking the court are not going to be the same as the ones we see during the regular season. Summer League play is an opportunity for teams to showcase their young players, and teams are often coached by an assistant coach, team executive, or former player.

With that in mind, let's take a look at Sunday's game Spurs vs. Warriors.

San Antonio Spurs (-1) vs. Golden State Warriors (-106), O/U 172.5 NBA Summer League Bets

Summer League squads don't exactly spend a lot of time together before starting league play; certainly not enough time to build any real chemistry. Regardless, hopes were high for the Spurs in their opener vs. Miami because of the talent on the squad. To the Heat's credit, Miami played solid defense, but hopes were higher for San Antonio's offense, despite being held to fewer than 20 points in three of four periods.

As for the Warriors, they didn't have an offensive standout in their opening win over the Lakers. Four players scored in double digits, with Jackson Rowe and Isaiah Mobley leading the way with 13 points, followed by Blake Hinson with 12 and Jaden Shackleford with 11.

Being highly regarded and talented means little if you can get it together and play good, clean basketball (or at least play better than the other guy). The Warriors will be riding some momentum coming into this game. While I expect a better effort out of the Spurs, I don't expect to see enough improvement to win in the second half of a back-to-back.

Pick: Golden State Moneyline (-106)
