Sunday’s Best College Baseball World Series Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
No. 3. Arkansas (+100) vs. Tennessee (-130) | O/U 10.0 (-115/-115) College Baseball Picks
Starting Pitchers:
- Arkansas: Gage Wood, RHP (3-1) | 25.1 Innings | 5.33 ERA
- Tennessee: Liam Doyle, LHP (10-3) | 92 Innings | 2.84 ERA
The Arkansas Razorbacks held on in Game 1 of this Super Regional series against the Tennessee Volunteers.
However, the Vols will send out ace pitcher Liam Doyle in Game 2, who has a 10-3 record with a 2.84 ERA this season. Doyle has a 3.55 ERA over his last three starts. He has also maintained a 1.18 WHIP during this time and has earned 14.9 strikeouts per nine innings. This season, Doyle has a .96 WHIP and just a 2.54 xFIP.
On the other hand, Gage Wood will take the hill for the Razorbacks. He’s got a 5.33 ERA on the season and a 7.36 ERA over the last three games. However, his XFIP in 25.1 innings is just 1.34. He also has a SIERA of just 0.33. Analytically, Wood has been terrific. Over his last three games, he’s struck out 18 batters per nine innings and has limited walks to 2.5 per nine innings.
Beyond that, both bullpens have been excellent throughout the year. Arkansas’ bullpen ranks fourth in college baseball with a 3.72 ERA, and Tennessee isn’t far behind with a 4.26 bullpen ERA. Tennessee’s bullpen has earned 13.2 strikeouts per nine innings, which is the best rate in college baseball over the last 10 games.
Neither team has been as good offensively over their last 10 games, either. Both have hit for a .299 average, which ranks near 100th in college baseball over that span. Therefore, consider the under in this Super Regionals matchup.
Pick: Under 10.0 Runs (-115)
8. Oregon State (-115) vs. 9. Florida State (-115) | O/U 12.0 (-115/-115) College Baseball Picks
Starting Pitchers:
- Oregon State: Undecided
- Florida State: Undecided
The Florida State Seminoles survived Game 2 of the Super Regionals and have now forced a Game 3. Whichever team wins tonight will advance to Omaha and compete in the double-elimination round.
Ultimately, neither team has yet named a starting pitcher. The third man in the rotation for Florida State would be Wes Mendes. He’s the likely option for the Seminoles. On the other hand, Oregon State will likely roll with right-handed pitchers Eric Segura and James DeCremer.
Segura has thrown 50 innings and has walked nearly six batters per nine innings. He’s also holding a 5.62 xFIP this year. Meanwhile, DeCremer has a 1.50 WHIP and a 4.50 ERA through only 24.2 innings pitched. That said, Florida State’s offense has been somewhat inconsistent over the last 10 games with just a .781 OPS. But as long as Florida State can get on base, good things will likely happen.
Meanwhile, Mendes has a 4.19 ERA over the last three games. He’s easily the more reliable pitcher in this matchup. This season, he struck out 10.5 batters per nine innings and had an xFIP of 4.61. While his walks were also high, his WHIP is still lower than DeCremer’s and Segura’s.
Oregon State has been tremendous on offense, especially over the last 30 days. But if Mendes gives Florida State some good innings to start this game, I like the Seminoles to hang on in Corvallis.
Pick: Florida State Moneyline (-115)
