College Baseball World Series Picks: Coastal Carolina vs. LSU

College Baseball World Series Picks: Coastal Carolina vs. LSU

The LSU Tigers will look to earn their second championship in three years when they take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in Game 1 of the College Baseball World Series tonight.

The Chanticleers decided to roll with Cameron Flukey in Game 1, which means they’ll be saving top starter Jacob Morrison for either Sunday or Monday. However, LSU is riding with its No. 1 starter in Kade Anderson. Does that mean LSU has the advantage in Game 1 of the College World Series? Let’s talk about it below.

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

No. 13 Coastal Carolina (+120) vs. No. 6 LSU (-165) | O/U 8.5 (-115/-115) College Baseball Picks

Starting Pitchers:

  • Coastal Carolina: Cameron Flukey, RHP (7-1) | 95.2 Innings | 3.29 ERA
  • LSU: Kade Anderson, RHP (11-1) | 110 Innings | 3.44 ERA

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have won 26 consecutive games heading into tonight’s College Baseball World Series Game 1 matchup. Yet, they’re still underdogs in tonight’s game against LSU.

Over the last 10 games, Coastal Carolina has shown significant improvement offensively, hitting a .301 average with an .850 OPS. LSU, on the other hand, has only hit for a .255 average in their last 10 games with a .813 OPS.

Additionally, Coastal Carolina has posted a 2.77 ERA over the last 10 games and has allowed a 1.165 WHIP. Still, Coastal Carolina’s SIERA has reached 3.35, and they’ve only struck out 8.7 batters per nine innings. LSU’s pitching staff has allowed more runs, but has also increased strikeouts and boasts a significantly lower SIERA of 2.98.

LSU starter Kade Anderson has earned a 3.00 ERA over the last three games. He’s also struck out nearly 11 batters per nine innings and has kept walks down to 2.6. He’ll face a difficult Coastal offense, but Anderson looks in form heading into tonight’s showdown.

Conversely, Cameron Flukey has given up a 3.94 ERA over the last three games. He has a very low ERA, but the talk around town is that he has an ERA close to 6.00 against Power 4 conference teams. LSU’s offense has been hot and cold, but the Tigers certainly have enough talent to put up some runs for Anderson.

There’s no knocking Coastal Carolina. They’ve been elite and have had some big wins against teams throughout the season and the tournament. However, LSU’s strength of schedule and its SEC conference affiliation should help elevate it to the top.

Plus, the fact that Coastal Carolina isn’t even running their best pitcher out for Game 1 of the series is hard to understand.

Give me the Tigers on the Moneyline.

Pick: LSU (-165)
